How to freshen up a rug?

My dog likes to sleep on my dark brown lounge rug and my son was laying on it the other day and said it’s starting to smell a bit. Im thinking bicarb of soda but not sure if the dog should be around that. Don’t want to hire a carpet cleaner for just one rug either. Not sure if there’s anything else I haven’t thought of?

How long do you leave the bicarb on for?

Giver it first, then hang out on the washing line spray liberally with febreeze for pet odours leave it out all day if possible

I leave bicarb on overnight and hoover in the morning. Personally, I don't think the fragrance sprays work. All they do is mask the smell for a short time.

I use a steam mop

Bicarb overnight then Hoover. Or I often use some diluted zoflora in a spray bottle, give it a good spray at night and leave to dry.

Bicarb or shake n vac.

Don't waste your money on anything else. Lots of bi carb will work over night

Bicarb might work for smell but does it actually clean it?
With small rugs before i have just washed it in the garden on a nice day, bucket of hot water and fairy liquid& brush, then hose off and leave to dry
Light grey rug looked like new after that

We sprinkled washing powder on ours. Dh jet washed it and put it over ds's playhouse to dry!

I've just used vanish carpet foam on our stair carpet and it smells lovely
