So two people split. You know the man quite a lot better than the woman but still haven’t seen him for a long time (think many years) and have no idea how or why they split. The woman has something to celebrate on social media. You write a cursory congrats with the usual ‘we should catch up’ tho they aren’t even in the same country (so hardly likely). Years later you get a plethora of messages from the man saying you are a shitty friend from the man because you dared write such a message. Thoughts?

Years later?? I think the man needs to get over himself, get a life, sounds bitter and pathetic and I'd message him and tell him that he didn't police my friendships

DBN1 · 27/08/2018 22:47

He's a wanker. Move on.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 27/08/2018 22:48

Have you been in any contact with the man in the years since? If not you can't really count him as a friend can you?

Kimlek · 27/08/2018 22:54

Regardless of years later or the next day you can be friendly to her. Maybe just say that you assumed you could be friendly with them both but if he’d rather not then that’s fine too. Sounds bitter. Did she have an affair?

Years later? Insane

Sounds like they split because he is a dick! If he can't even handle someone saying something nice to another person and holds a grudge about it for years, imagine what he's like as a husband!

DucksOnThePond · 28/08/2018 19:55

She asked me to apologise so FWIW my response was "Sorry you are being such a dick and such a control freak about something so utterly petty. No one reacts like this when their life is "ace" so I genuinely wish you some peace but don't inflict your madness on me. I can't be arsed.".

I love your response! In a few years he may think of an answer......

Years later? What a loon. Do hate the insincere ‘we should catch up’ though.
