Is pollock really the most bland fish in the world?

I buy it because it's supposed to be more sustainable, but it doesn't matter what I do, it's just boring. Tonight I made fishcakes and although the DC ate them they were dull. AIBU, how do I make it delicious?

Put it in fish pie with smoked fish and prawns, it's very blah on it's own.

Yes it’s the beige of fish

Such a good description PristineCondition.

It’s disgusting!

Spanglylycra · 27/08/2018 22:12

It rhymes with bollock, that's enough to put me off eating it (!)

Coley is bland AF too. I think that's why it's not been over-fished!

Make a fish curry. I've been making it since DD was 9 months, she's 11 in a few weeks!

To me all fish tastes the same, with the exception of salmon or trout (colour).

To me it is all about the texture and the way it is cooked. Overcooked fish is like the Chippie shite when I were a young one. Grey and tasteless. Much nicer now though.

I wonder myself if someone served up coley or pollock or whatever and called it something else would I care, as long as it is snow white, juicy, and flaky and gorgeous. Vinegar is non negotiable though, sorry for not clutching my pearls there!

Try poaching it in white wine, dill and butter... I do this with Basa, which I'm afraid, is far beiger than pollock....!
