AIBU to be very confused over pay ?

I'm working my notice in my job as I have been offered a better position elsewhere. We get paid tomorrow (28th). We always get paid on this date. However, I will not be finishing until next Wednesday (5th September). I've looked at my paycheck online for tomorrow (salaried so it is always around the 5500 mark). I have also received my P45.

I'm really confused as to why I've received my P45 as surely I am owed 1 1/2 weeks pay (which would average 1250) ? Do I not get this if I resigned in the middle of a pay month?!

I'm so confused, I am freaking out as I thought I would have had another paycheck at the end of September (for the one and a half weeks I will have worked) - but surely the P45 means I won't ??

So confused - as you can tell maths/accounting/finance is not my forte!

They may have paid you for the extra days already. Is your gross pay on the payslip the same as normal or more?

Catmum26 · 27/08/2018 20:06

yes you should get paid at the end of september for the 1.5 weeks worked. no idea why you have your P45 now. sorry i’m no help but they can’t just not pay you because you’re leaving middle of the month. as long as you worked your notice you’re entitled to get paid.

happypoobum · 27/08/2018 20:08

Although you are paid on 28th, that is probably for all work provided until end of August. So you would only be owed an additional 5 days.

Also, if you owe any annual leave, they will have taken that off.

Is it possible your August pay reflects the additional few days, less any annual leave owing?

SgtFredColon · 27/08/2018 20:08

If it is like my work you would only be due 3 days for September as money on 28th would be for whole month and then you only worked 3 days in September (assuming you work Monday to Friday only). Also they may have added on those 3 days to August salary?

Bluelady · 27/08/2018 20:08

Won't the most they owe you - if anything - be five days pay, ie to 5 Sept?

TooTrueToBeGood · 27/08/2018 20:08

Is it possible you're paid a mix of in arrears and in advance? I started my current role on the 1st of the month but got full salary the first month on the standard payday of the 20th. I assume I've been carrying 10 calendar days in advance ever since. Best idea though is to call your payroll dept and ask. Only they can really tell you what the score is.

Catmum26 · 27/08/2018 20:10

sorry as others are saying your pay on the 28th would be up to the end of the month so you would only be entitled to 5 days pay. double check your pay slip that they haven’t just paid you the extra 5 days on this pay

pixiie · 27/08/2018 20:10

My paycheck is the same as usual - so they haven't added them on!

All annual leave is up to date (I actually have 2 days left to take, but won't take them)

I just don't want to work these days if I wont get paid! Sad

Do the figures on the payslip YTD tally with the P45? Might there be a supplementary pay run next week?

pixiie · 27/08/2018 20:11

D'oh I meant the 12th September not 5th!

Icequeen01 · 27/08/2018 20:12

We get paid two weeks in arrears and two weeks in front. This always catches out staff when they leave.

pixiie · 27/08/2018 20:12

we all get paid 4 weeks in arrears

Speak to HR tomorrow and ask. If they say you won't get paid tell them you are going home!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 27/08/2018 20:16

Year to date on your final payslip should match the figures on your P45. If your P45 is higher then you probably have another payslip in the system. Either way can you just contact HR?

pixiie · 27/08/2018 20:24

My paycheck matches my P45 Sad

Not too sure why ...

Checked my annual leave online and I've got Time Owed in Lieu as well as AL

I am gobsmacked that over a grand of money would just be missed off my pay ... I was banking on that money to pay my rent this month (as I don't start my new job til end of September). So stressful, it seems work always cocks up my pay (didnt get paid for 2 months at the beginning...)

Just speak to work tomorrow. They will be able to actually tell you what’s happening

sprinklesandsauce · 27/08/2018 20:33

They shouldn’t have issued your P45 until 12 September and that should include pay to that date, plus any TOIL and holiday that you are owed.

You need to ask Payroll why they’ve issued the P45 too early before all pay has been received.

Dorsetdays · 27/08/2018 20:40

As most have said, the majority of companies will pay you on your normal pay date but for the whole month.

Depending on when your annual leave year starts/ends you might have overstepped your pro-rate entitlement if you’re saying you only have 2 days remaining, if that’s the case you will have had the relevant number of days deducted from your final pay.

I’ve never worked anywhere that will pay you in lieu of TOIL not taken prior to leaving either so you may have just forfeited that.

Check your contract which will explain payment terms, leave year and how final salary is calculated and then if that doesn’t clarify it you can just speak to your employer tomorrow.

WindsweptNotInteresting · 27/08/2018 20:40

My DH left his job at the beginning of the year and got his P45 before his final pay cheque (in fact he actually got 3 pay cheques after getting his P45 for various bits and bobs they owed him), so you may just get another pay at the end of next month.

wheezing · 27/08/2018 20:47

I get paid middle of the month but it’s half in arrears half early (ie. I got paid for the whole of August a week or two a go)which I’m wondering if yours also is.
If I quit effective of the 5th then I would just get paid 5 days extra even though I would have got paid about 3 weeks before I left

mikeyssister · 27/08/2018 20:48

Assuming you're paid €5,500 per month I would calculate your pay as follows:

€5,500 * 12 / 52 / 5. This would give me your daily rate of pay.

Assuming you're leaving on 12th September and your pay this week is up to 31st August, I would calculate you're due:

€5,500 12 / 52 /5 (7 + 2 + TOIL days). 7 is the number of days you will be working in September.

There are other ways of calculating it, but that's my consistent.

Bimgy85 · 27/08/2018 20:59

Holiday pay?

Bimgy85 · 27/08/2018 21:01

They clearly added the payment for the week and a half into it? So they don't need to bother giving you a paycheck for a week at the end of September? Get it all out of the way now, no? Unless they're saying you can finish now

Bimgy85 · 27/08/2018 21:02

They've paid you for annual leave that you haven't taken as they owe you this once you leave. Are you 100% sure your gonna be working in September?

DerekTheBrave · 27/08/2018 21:06

yes you should get paid at the end of september for the 1.5 weeks worked

Why do people dish out such shit and made up advice with no idea if it’s true? No way to possibly know this without knowing the ops pay schedule, normal salary, contract and other details.

Speak to your HR department op. None of us can possibly tell you.
