To think things are different these days?

I had what would be seen as a stable childhood to outsiders but my parents divorced and both with my father and stepfather there was loads of arguments and shouting. Things were often tense at home. Was this just childhood in the 80's and 90's generally? I just can't see my child or others (your average "normal" family) being like this these days? I feel it just wouldn't happen now. Anyone else think this?

I think people are more aware of the effects of shouting at or around children than they were then. I imagine people then assumed that as long as they weren't hitting or neglecting the kids it was ok.

That said it's pretty unrealistic to expect no shouting at all in family life as parents are only human.

Of course it would happen now. Why are people here obsessed with the idea that things are different in every single aspect of lives?
In almost anything you can think of, there were people doing it then, whenever then was, and there are people doing it now. there were people doing it differently then, and people doing it differently now.

Why on earth wouldn't it happen now? Confused

Mari50 · 27/08/2018 18:24

Personally I think you’re being a bit naive.

WorraLiberty · 27/08/2018 18:24

And what even is an 'average normal family'?

superfly2018 · 27/08/2018 18:35

My Original post was supposed to say "or am I being naive"!
Just all the mums I see seem to be loving the school runs, the baby groups, the play dates etc and I wonder if no one else is ever losing their sh!t!!
