When to panic?

Hi, I've NC'd for this...

I took norethisterone for 20 days, my last tablet was Friday morning. I still have no sign of my period, not even a cramp! I know it's only Monday but I thought I'd at least feel like it's coming on.

I had sore boobs and heart burn the other week but I didn't think anything of it until now. Am I over thinking things? I hope to god I'm not pregnant and that my period comes!

How long should I wait before I do a test? I don't know how it would work with me having been on norethisterone.

Regarding whether (or when) to test or not, if you're comfortable disclosing it, specifying when you last had intercourse would be helpful as well as whether you're on any other medication. The norethisterone alone shouldn't affect the likelihood of an hCG test producing a false positive or negative (although the standard associated inaccuracies still apply).

This is all with the usual disclaimer that the people here are either unqualified to offer direct medical advice or, if they are, they shouldn't be doing so in an official capacity.

We've had lots of intercourse over the past month. We used protection but know it's not 100%. Last period was middle of June.

July sorry not June!

In theory, there's nothing wrong with doing a pregnancy test (in the sense that the norethisterone shouldn't affect it), just be prepared to retest after a couple of weeks in the event of a negative result and to go for confirmatory testing in the event of a positive. I'm assuming the cost isn't prohibitive.

Regarding your expecting a period, there's no harm in scheduling a GP visit, in fact this package insert specifies that the advice of a doctor should be sought before discontinuing use:
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.5941.pdf

Though you absolutely should refer to the one that was included with your particular brand and strength of medication rather than this one before making a decision.

i took northisterone for about 3 weeks over my wedding and honeymoon. it took about a week if i remember for my period to come back and my cycles were wonky for about 3 weeks after. try not to worry.

Catmum26 · 27/08/2018 16:19

sorry i meant 3 months not weeks

JustMarried2018 · 27/08/2018 16:56

Thank you, that's reassuring! I'll give it a few more days and if there's still no sign, I'll take a test.

I'd take a test. Cheap one from home bargains/pound shop.
