Posting for traffic!
Just arrived at our holiday lodge and have realized the mam bottles won't fit in the microwave to sterilise Sad
We can't get to shop/ pharmacy today to buy sterlising tablets.
Is there any other way to sterilise bottles?
We have a dishwasher , kettle and pot?
Baby 5 months old

Heat in boiling water on the hob for 3 to 5 mins! Or in kettle for same length of time!

Put them in a pan of boiling water for ten minutes

Fill a pan with water and boil for 5 mins. Also in France they dishwasher them. Weaning stuff doesnt need sterelising

I believe a hot wash in the dishwasher is sufficient with no further sterilising needed..

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/08/2018 17:31

Yes just boil for ten mins.

And that brings back memories of walking round currys testing the bottle in all the microwaves in the shop!

NHS official guidance:

Sterilising by boiling
Make sure that whatever you want to sterilise in this way is safe to boil.
Boil the feeding equipment in a large pan of water for at least 10 minutes, making sure it all stays under the surface.
Set a timer so you don't forget to turn the heat off.
Remember that teats tend to get damaged faster with this method. Regularly check that teats and bottles are not torn, cracked or damaged.

:) at 5 months I would worry too much if sterilising is not perfect! At that age my son was shoving dummies back in his mouth without them being sterilised fist! And both DSs were eating some solid food with unsterilised utensils at that age! I'm sure boiling will be fine, have a lovely holiday and enjoy :)
