They made no attempt I’ve been sitting here waiting. How can a business function like this?

They're massively overworked with way more parcels than they can possibly deliver and they get paid pence per delivery, penalised for ones they don't make. It will likely show up in a few days and they've marked it delivery attempted so as not to get in the shit for not delivering on the expected day.

YANBU. Last year I ordered some presents for my son’s birthday that were being delivered by Hermes. We were in holiday (still in U.K.) at the time, so I’d asked for them to be delivered there, to a pick up point. The day of delivery I got a text saying they’d been delivered to my home address (which was obvs the billing address). Clearly they hadn’t, as no one was home. It took about 40hrs if research to find a customer service number, and when I called they insisted they’d delivered it to me at home. They refused to accept otherwise. When I eventually got home, there was no sign of the delivery anywhere. Eventually the company of ordered from sent me a new delivery out, but we’d missed my son’s birthday by then.

This has happened to me, when I called Next it was because the driver ran out of time and it was delivered the following morning. Frustrating if you’ve waited in all day but from people I know that have worked for Hermes they are often given an impossible workload for very little financial reward.

If I’m buying something online and I know it’ll be delivered by Hermes, it puts me off buying. They once told me they hadn’t delivered my parcel on the promised day (Monday) because they only made deliveries to my area on a Thursday. The parcel never came so the shop sent out a replacement. Which Hermes delivered on a Tuesday 🙄 I understand that they’re overworked but we never have this issue with DPD or Parcelforce

Hermes are awful Where we lived before they could never get it right and regularly misdelivered. My favourite was when they were adamant with my dh that they had attempted delivery and we had been out. DH was insistent that we had not been out and they had not been there. So they send us a picture of the delivery . showing a lovely driveway complete with time stamp on it.. DH replied.." That's a lovely drive way here is a picture of our house. (was at the time living in a very distinctive pink house with no drive way)

They redelivered the item the next day.

mindutopia · 24/08/2018 20:33

Yes, they’re crap. But you get what you pay for. They are the cheapest of the large couriers. We use them a lot for our business (for the inexpensive items that won’t break when they inevitably chuck them over someone’s gate). We also get lots of deliveries from them, often a day or two late marked ‘undeliverable’ because no one answered the door. I work from home. I’m literally here all day staring at the drive from my desk. You couldn’t miss me if you tried. But they are truly paid nothing and I expect it’s miserable work.

They're awful. They delivered my son's bike that I'd ordered for his birthday. I saw the van pull up so waited by the front door, only to watch the bloke walk round the side of the house and heave the box over the 6ft fence into my back garden. I went out to confront him and he said 'well there was no car on the drive so how was I meant to know you were in?'
Ummm... try ringing the bloody doorbell?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/08/2018 20:47

Generally they're awful.

My local delivery guy is brilliant though. He'd been unwell (thought he was going to die). They treated him appallingly.

Whattheheq · 24/08/2018 20:53

I’m the opposite, never had any issues with Hermes but never don’t have an issue when dpd are delivering.

Elderflower14 · 24/08/2018 20:59

We have a lovely Hermes man. He even waves at me if he sees me in the village when he's driving through.

kaytee87 · 24/08/2018 21:01

Yanbu I always have issues with Hermes and also yodel. They're bloody awful.

listsandbudgets · 24/08/2018 21:14

Awful. I once sent something to my mum. Hermes claimed they delivered it 3pm to her conservatory.......at 3.45pm the log said she refused it at the door as it was damaged! She doesn't have either a conservatory or a bad memory. It was refunded by the company but who knows what happened to the original parcel
