AIBU to be cross with Hermes?

Today I waited in for a parcel. The courier put a 'sorry we missed you' card through the letterbox, but didn't bother to knock on the door. I was in.

Annoying.

So I contacted Hermes by online chat. I was told that they will attempt to get in touch with the courier (or 'service provider' as they call them) but they cannot guarantee that they will be able to.

So I have to stay in again tomorrow, but have no reassurance that the courier won't do exactly the same thing again.

Apparently this particular courier is 'famous' in my area for doing this. Hermes obviously don't care.

What a joke!

Next time I order online I am going to ask the company what delivery firm they use. If they say Hermes I will not use them and will go elsewhere.

Raaahhh!!!

It’s frustrating isn’t it?

Our local Hermes guy is brilliant, friendly and resourceful so I know there are people out there who can bloody well do it

But DPD in this area are proper shite, exactly like you describe in your OP. I complained to Asos many a time but like you say, they don’t really give a shit.
I have waited in for a delivery, been in sight of both front and back doors for my allotted hour and when checking the status on,one see that the driver claims my parcel was signed for by 'front door'. FFS. Not at my house obviously. Luckily the neighbour hand delivered it but only after a few days of getting zero help from anyone else involved.

You are never unreasonable to be cross with Hermes. They're useless.

chickenowner · 23/08/2018 19:49

It is indeed very frustrating. The attitude on the online chat has angered me more than the incompetent courier!

Hermes are useless full stop.

My Hermes courier is fantastic but I used to work for a company that used them for deliveries. In some ways you should probably count yourself lucky that they haven't lost/damaged/left your parcel in a bin that's already been emptied.

Yodel are just as bad.

It's infuriating isn't it

I don't think I'm asking too much that they courier knocks on my door!

My Hermes delivery driver is fab (it's one of my neighbours who hears Hermes knock to take my parcel in but doesn't hear my knocks for me to collect it later that's annoying grr).

Last year my husband ordered something on amazon for my birthday due to be delivered on my birthday- we waited in, we kept windows open (so we could hear knocking if they didn't use the bell plus it would be more obvious we were in) we kept looking out front and back etc and then my husband got an email (not a card through the door) saying sorry we missed you! He was right on to amazon and told them there is no way their driver came and as they email had Just come through if he had came he can't be far away. They said they would try to get hold of him. He came the next day. There was a football match on around the expected delivery time so my DH suspected he wanted to be finished on time to watch that.

I have my parcel!

And the courier completely lied about knocking on the door yesterday.

I also had a parcelforce delivery today, I was given an hour timeslot, the guy arrived on time and was friendly and polite. What a difference!

Next time I order online I will ask which delivery company they use and if it's Hermes I will go elsewhere.

People complain about the death of the high street and how fabulous online shopping is, cheaper and more convenient. Yet everyone I know has problems with stuff being delivered, having to stay in and them not turning up, or delivering outside the hours you said you'd be there etc.

Everyone focuses on price but I'm not entirely sure it is more convenient all the time.
