Who is in the wrong here?

On holiday and staying in an apartment overlooking a field full of cows. This morning a boy of about 7 or 8, unsupervised by a parent was throwing stones into the field of cows. My DH knocked on the window and told the boy not to throw stones at the cows.
This evening when we got back to the apartment, the mother told my DH that he has ruined her holiday. Her son is now afraid to go outside, and actually he wasn't throwing stones at cows but at the cow pats in the field. Was DH genuinely being unreasonable or is the mother barking mad?

The boy shouldn’t have been throwing stones at anything fullstop, so I’ll come down on the side of DH.

Pissedoffdotcom · 21/08/2018 20:35

Tell her to go ask the farmer who owns the field what he thinks...bet she won't cos she knows he'll go mad at stones being flung in the direction of his livestock.

MsOliphant · 21/08/2018 20:35

Ruined her holiday!! What a snowflake/drama llama.

I would have told the little shit boy to stop throwing stones at living creatures too. Cow pats my foot.

SilverHairedCat · 21/08/2018 20:35

The woman is barking. The boy was caught out and he knows it. Your husband knows what he saw, and if he is certain of it he should be sticking to his guns. Any person throwing stones at animals should be challenged and rightly so.

Ruined her little prince's holiday? Yeh right.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 21/08/2018 20:36

As long as he wasn’t really aggressive about it he was NBU.

araiwa · 21/08/2018 20:37

Presumably dh laughed in her face as he slowly closed the door?

Doyoumind · 21/08/2018 20:37

Ruined her holiday? She should teach her DS not to throw stones. If he were mine I would have had a word with him well before your DH.

Jenjenyeahyeah · 21/08/2018 20:37

I don’t think there is anything wrong with saying something if you see someone doing something that is wrong (ie hurting an animal). He was unsupervised so your DH has no option to talk directly to the child, who is old enough to know right from wrong and at an age where I’m sure he’s been told not to do things before (by parents teachers coaches etc).

Sounds like the mom is overreacting and to say it’s ruined the holiday is ridiculous. What silly snowflakes!

MrsCherryBakewell · 21/08/2018 20:38

Thank you all. We were starting to wonder if we should have just ignored him but feeling a lot better about it now.

YeTalkShiteHen · 21/08/2018 20:38

PFB? Sounds like it.

I’m firmly with your DH on this one.

Peaspleaselouise · 21/08/2018 20:39

And there be the reason why the boy thinks it’s ok to thrown stones. YANBU. She is.

MsOliphant · 21/08/2018 20:39

Asking her what the farmer might think about it is a good idea! People who don't respect the countryside/livestock are bloody idiots.

sodabreadjam · 21/08/2018 20:39

Ruined her holiday? Has she phoned the Daily Mail yet for a "sad face" article?

marvellousnightforamooncup · 21/08/2018 20:42

What a ridiculous twat she is, and her boy is a brat. Poor cows.

Pumpkintopf · 21/08/2018 20:43

How ridiculous. Your DH was clearly in the right.

Moreisnnogedag · 21/08/2018 20:49

If some random kid was throwing stones into my field I’d be grateful that someone told them off.

Ruined holiday indeed. Better a quick word from your DH than a mouthful from an angry farmer.

Lookatyourwatchnow · 21/08/2018 20:49

That kid is going to be awful when he's an adult if his mum continues to be a special snowflake enabler

Alpacanorange · 21/08/2018 20:50

Tell her to ask the farmer and his decision will be final.

giveitfive · 21/08/2018 20:53

She sounds like a prat who is raising a kid who will be unable to take responsibility for his actions and their consequences.

If he was throwing stones at the cow pats.... he shouldn't have been. He could have hit a cow.

Let's face it. We all know her little Prince was throwing stones at the cows. YANBU and your DH is in the right.

Hushnownobodycares · 21/08/2018 20:54

Precious mum is barking and bratty kid is pulling her strings for all he's worth.

Throwing stones at cow shit, my arse Hmm

Orchidflower1 · 21/08/2018 20:54

Sorry the snowflake had his holiday ruined —caughtbeingacruelsod— you dh was totally right.

Howhot · 21/08/2018 20:55

YANBU at all. I definitely lean on the side of minding my own business but a child throwing stones bear animals and I would absolutely have to say something. Just ignore her.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 21/08/2018 20:56

Maybe the dc needs to be the stone tomorrow!!!

Pengggwn · 21/08/2018 20:56

Totally with your DH.

Maelstrop · 21/08/2018 20:57

Your DH was totally correct. Sounds like Prince Snowflake needs bollocking once in a while.
