Wee in a bucket - AIBU?

Camping at the moment, the toilet building is about 3 minute walk from where we are pitched. My husband tends to wake up middle of the night and - instead of going to the toilet - he uses the kids' plastic bucket to pee into. He thinks it's normal and I am completely unreasonable to think it's a disgusting habit. He's also mad that I told the kids about it, as they are now refusing to use the bucket. AIBU?

Not sure why people get so uptight about wee! If it was shit,then I could understand it. But I really don't think it's such a big deal! Just wash the bucket out with warm soapy water and it will be fine!

You need a toilet bucket! HIBU to expect the kids to use the bucket again afterwards, but I wouldn't mind the weeing in a bucket bit.

Can't he buy his own bucket or a urine bottle, or even use a empty milk bottle, that's not fair on the kids really. Where and when does he empty it. Is this a real story or a wee wee wind up.

His own bucket with a lid ( nappy bucket) would be better but a primary school teacher tells me wee is hygenic due to kidney filteration , especially compared to sick or snot.

I'd recommend getting a special bucket for that too. GROSS.

That said, it is true that urine is largely sterile in most people. I have read that in some cases it was used to clean wounds when the water was known to be contaminated.

Always wee in a bucket camping here. I buy some small bin liners and cheap disposable nappies, line bucket with bag and have nappy inside, nappy holds wee and is bagged up. No washing out needed.

We have a Kampa Khazi. It's like a bucket with a loo seat. Love it!

why cant he use an empty soft drink bottle?
Or better yet, toilet train him. If you and the kids can make it so can he.

While I think an able bodied person is completely unreasonable pissing in a bucket when they have a toilet 3 mins away I'm sure everyone will tell you it's fine.

There was another thread not long back where a visitor requested a bucket in someone's house rather than using a toilet. The majority agreed this was a bonza idea . I added that I thought it disgusting and even someone like myself with with continence issues who often can't make it from the bed to the loo in the night makes the effort rather than pissing in a bucket (you just change wet continence product when you get to the toilet and use a wet wipe that you bin not flush). I was told this was extremely odd behaviour and that a commode next to the bed should be used in this instance rather than, you know, a toilet in 2018. So I expect your husband will be encouraged and cheered on.

Again, while I'm sure everyone will say it's fine and it's all sterile etc, I would at least make him get himself a dedicated bucket, not one of the kids buckets. I would also make him clean and scrub it out each morning.

I wouldn't like the noise of it or having a tip-able bucket near the tent. What if an animal or someone knocked it over by Quidenham?

Why doesn't he just pee in a bush like every other man? Isn't that what they're good at? I would be put off by him doing that. And I would have hated it as a child if my dad had done that and absolutely would not be using the bucket again. YANBU.

my son works away from home in work camps. on his first week at the job site rather than get up to wee he used a pop bottle....sackable offence! health and safety of the cleaning staff...NO three warnings...job loss on the spot.
yes your camping and yes your all family but it's smelly and grim. tell him to be a big boy sleep with the flashlight and wee in the bushes or at the latrine.

tell him to wee before bed so he doesn't need to use the bucket!

We have a wee bucket when camping, it has a lid, we put a swing bin liner inside then add kitty litter, it absorbs the wee and the smell!

Weeing in a bucket overnight is not unusual when camping . A bucket is often included on kit lists on tne camping board.

Let him get his own dedicated bucket.

PP saying he should just go to the toilet as it is 3 mins are maybe not regular campers. It's not the walk it's the several noisy zips that have to be unzipped and re-zipped to get out the tent and get back in a tent. After it all goes quiet on a camp site at night you feel like the sound is going to wake the dead. So going in a bush or hedge is irrelevant.

As for going before you go to bed, congratulations on being younger than DH and I!! The days when going for a wee before bed meant not needing for another 8 hours are largely behind us.

We have dedicated receptacles when camping. Can be emptied either into toilet or most campsite have a sluice for chemical toilets anyway.
