Hillsborough Charges Dropped

AIBU to find this unbelievable & shameful. There are written Police docs that state "we risk looking like the fans were more organised than we were". Also in the public arena: Police docs that were blatantly edited & altered to give false info . If you saw it on TV like I did, you know the fans WERE more organised: helping each other out of the crush & using ad boards as stretchers etc. If they hadn't been, the death toll would have been even greater. Shameful.

But you have to be able to prove it.

He’s only one man left off though. More serious manslaughter charges are against others

kierenthecommunity · 21/08/2018 13:52

It’s only Bettison that’s had the charges dropped isn’t it? The others are going to trial next year

Justanotherlurker · 21/08/2018 13:54

A shame, but without reliable witnesses what can they do?

It's taken far too long to get this far and now it's too late for a proper prosecution.

IdahoJones · 21/08/2018 13:55

Maybe evidence will come out in the forthcoming trial that re-implicates him. CPS are going for the certain ones first, I guess.

Great point. I hadn't looked at it that way. We can only hope.

You've got to hope, OP.

Witnesses can say what they want during a trial without risk of being threatened with stressful defamation proceedings by the lawyers of those with deep pockets. They can speak freely, in public. It will be widely reported.

Roles will be dissected and analysed as the accused present their defences. 'It wasn't my fault' begs the question, 'well whose fault was it, then?'

You know I think it’s gone too far now for realistic chances of conviction. People have died, memories have faded and notes lost.

And none of that applies to those poor families.

It really has been a disgrace.

loverly · 21/08/2018 14:57

The Families group said they think the wrong charges were applied in the first place and want to try for other charges. Personally, lets see how January goes. If Duckenfield doesn't get convicted - it won't be justice for the 96. Although nothing will make up for the years of comfort and money that has had while the families suffered.

Notes lost? Major newspapers will have photocopies of Police docs they published (re lack of organisation/editing their notebooks). Plus there is internal stadium Cctv of the crowds being directed towards already full pens & TV footage re fans helping each other and disorganised Police response. I remember watching & thinking I could see maybe a handful of policemen if that. It took ages for any more & ambulance staff to appear.
