AIBU to worry about the coil

NC for this

DH and I have sex very infrequently and after DTD last night it occurred to me that it's been about 5.5 years since I had it fitted. Confused

I remembered vaguely that they only lasted about 5 years, but it totally slipped my mind and I've had no reminder from the GP, should I be worried? I know it's not like an on/ off switch, but how long should the atually last?

Maybe get the MAP to be safe but I wouldn’t be worried as non hormonal coils provide very good contraception. However if you have the hormonal one I’d get it changed. The non hormonal ones last 10 years.

Theres a 5 yr copper one and a 10 yr one and i wouldnt automatically assume that your gp would send a letter... many don't. There are some age dependent factors on its efficiency as a contraceptive depending on what age you had it fitted but in general you are advised to use another form of contraception after the five years as its not guaranteed as a contraceptive after that if it is the 5yr one. I would contact your gp first thing for advice.
