To think this is not how you eat stuffing?!

We went to a friend's for lunch today. She cooked a lovely roast (I'm not complaining.)

She mixed the stuffing with hot water and let it sit. I assumed it would go in the oven as I do with mine and as it states on the packet. When the food was ready to serve, she brought the bowl of stuffing out!! It had not been in the oven and didn't taste great.

I've never know anyone do this before!!

AIBU to think this is not the norm? Shock

As a teen at dp’s I used to whinege of no stuffing. So his mum bought it. Just as we were dishing up, he mixed it with water, stirred it, and said it’s done! We then argue over it being cooked, so I slapped some on his plate and put the reminder in the microwave for the rest of us. From then on stuffing cooked in the oven was served with Sunday lunch.

sounds like she got confused with couscous

TerfsUp · 19/08/2018 20:04

Could be wrong though

Yep. You're wrong.

@butterflyrabbit - Grating or blitzing bread to make breadcrumbs is one of my most all-time hated cooking jobs so idk how ppl can say 'it's so easy!' to make yourself

I'm with you on the grating bit. I contributed many a layer of skin to the dinner back in the days before I had a food processor (a bit of extra protein). However, you can buy packets of fresh, bread coloured, breadcrumbs in the fridge section of any supermarket so all you have to do then is chop an onion, chop some sage or thyme, melt a bit of butter and voila, bread coloured stuffing.

Paxo...

When I moved into my first flat, our neighbour made me up a hamper to take, which included a packet of Paxo.

I set the grill on fire when I left it under and fell asleep (drunk). The stench of charred Paxo lingered horribly until I moved out a year later.

@AimlesslyPurposeful - colouring the crumbs orange reminds us to put them on fish and not in the fruit bowl

That makes complete sense. It would be a pain fishing (see that I did there) individual breadcrumbs out of the fruit bowl.

OllyBJolly · 19/08/2018 20:11

that's how my mum did it! I only know to put it in the oven by reading the box!

Although tbh - I like it both ways

blueskiesandforests · 19/08/2018 20:12

You can buy breadcrumbs easily (not a funny colour, just bread colour). I hate making breadcrumbs too.

MsHomeSlice · 19/08/2018 20:16

ruskoline is the same as that orange paxo crumb effect stuff.

dd had a bit of a row stand off with a customer when she worked in a supermarket as they asked for ruskoline, she took them to the ruskoline and they said that it was not that they wanted, they wanted ruskoline, for fish....

and so it went on.

If I use paxo I put loads of melted butter in with the hot water and then make it into balls and let it go in with the roasties for a bit.

I am a bit disappointed I didn't do that with today's roast chicken.

GruffaloStick · 19/08/2018 20:17

That's how my mum did it too, and MIL I wonder if it's a 'northern' thing.
If you buy a sandwich from the supermarket or sandwich shop it would most likely be made the same way.
I'm quite partial to it and sometimes still cook it that way for a quick roast. I do love proper stuffing in the oven though, crunchy

sparklepops123 · 19/08/2018 21:07

Yep, make it like that then add mayo , and spread in sandwiches with turkey etc

lauryloo · 19/08/2018 21:09

Eating Paxo like this is one of my guilty pleasures

Only about half ever makes it into the oven Blush

Munchmallow · 19/08/2018 22:38

@waxy1 that's my favourite recipe too, and the ingredients for skirlie and mealie puddings - food of the gods!

DwangelaForever · 19/08/2018 22:41

Sausage meat stuffing is the way to go.

Sausage meat
Browned onions
Porridge oats
Breadcrumbs
A packet of pack

Moulded into a loaf and ovened for around 45 mins, food of the gods 😍

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/08/2018 22:41

I don’t make stuffing. Always get a packet mix, but posher stuff than paxo. Add boiling water but then always put it in the oven.

DwangelaForever · 19/08/2018 22:42

@checkingforballoons you have leftover roasties at Christmas 😱 that's an achievement

DwangelaForever · 19/08/2018 22:43

That should say packet of paxo btw
