Is there a Summer cold going around?

NoClueWhatNext · 19/08/2018 16:13

I see to have something. Feeling very sweaty at times, glands up, a bit bunged up etc. for a few days. But not the usual "full on cold". Is there something similar going around (in South).

There's something like that in the Midlands.

Bleugh.

Benandhollysmum · 19/08/2018 16:18

The vomiting bug is going about as well

doodlejump1980 · 19/08/2018 16:18

Yup! In the highlands, I have the works. Sore ears, throat and sinuses. Runny nose and horrible cough. Just in time for the schools going back tomorrow. Sigh.

doodlejump1980 · 19/08/2018 16:19

Oh no @benandhollysmum. Where are you?

Shoxfordian · 19/08/2018 16:20

Yeah I had that a couple of weeks ago and still have a cough.

Pickleypickles · 19/08/2018 16:21

There is the northwest and it's horrible, ive been trying to shake a cold and ear infection for 2 weeks now!

MamaBearThius · 19/08/2018 16:22

I'm in Lincoln and both my daughter (2) and I have been struggling with cold/sore throat and fevers for 2 weeks now. Having a cold in Summer feels so alien...my normal fix would be snuggly blankets and hot water bottles!

Gigis · 19/08/2018 16:22

Midlands here too, definitely something summer coldy going around

NoClueWhatNext · 19/08/2018 16:28

oh, and vaguely runny nose, and no energy.

perhaps its just waiting to come "out"?

been eating soup for two days!

anyway it sounds all through UK...

Yes, here too in the South. Blocked nose, thick head, aches all over.....

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 19/08/2018 16:52

This is what I have right now. Not a terrible cold, but enough to make me feel like crap

Bunbunbunny · 19/08/2018 16:52

Yep in London had few in the office with it

ShadyLady53 · 19/08/2018 16:58

Yes I’ve got it. Started on Friday with a fever, scratchy sore throat and runny nose as well as achy arms and swollen glands. Came on very suddenly and I’ve had to cancel my plans over the weekend and for tomorrow.

MadamBatty · 19/08/2018 17:00

In Dublin have something where my bones ache, I could fall asleep if I sit down. Headache, shivers. It seems to be going around here.

Didiplanthis · 19/08/2018 17:17

South East. Feel rubbish. All kids had it too. Nasty vomiting bug going round too.

Polarbearflavour · 19/08/2018 17:23

There is in my office. But there is always a bug going around somewhere. I guarantee if you get sick with D&V or a cold somebody will say “oh there’s a bug going round isn’t there.” Every time! You might have food poisoning or your ear might be sore due to an excess of wax but somebody will always comment on it being nasty bug doing the rounds!

NoClueWhatNext · 19/08/2018 17:26

well, I must have been psychic 'cos I bought some soup ingredients a few days ago (I never eat soup) and have managed to make it. i also fancied some grapes and actually at an apple Grin (another sign, my body is speaking to me!).

anyway, I'm off to bed now. if only i had a decent novel/short stories to potter through. if you're gonna be sick you might as well do it in comfort!

hope you all get better soon Flowers

ate an apple!

London28 · 19/08/2018 17:30

Yes up here in Norfolk!

I have it and have been in bed since Thursday! Horrendous.

MissConductUS · 19/08/2018 17:32

It's much more likely to be summer allergies/hay fever than a virus. If I don't take my allergy meds I get exactly the same symptoms, and it certainly isn't a virus in my case. Get some Cetirizine (zyrtec) at the chemist and see if that helps.

bsbabas · 19/08/2018 17:32

I thought I had a hangover but it lasted three days went away for a week then came back again both times we had guests so I looked like a lazy are who couldn't be bothered to get dressed Blush

ShadyLady53 · 19/08/2018 17:36

NoClue, I’ve spent two days in bed or on the sofa binge watching watching Netflix (BonusFamily). It’s actually been quite lovely haha. It’s rare I get sick when I’m off work so I’m making the most of it lol. Enjoy the rest and get better soon!

UrsulaPandress · 19/08/2018 17:37

Another in the north west. Keeps coming and going. And chest gets worse each time. Hacking dry cough.

MissConductUS · 19/08/2018 17:40

Here's a good chart to distinguish a cold from allergies with treatments for each:

Seasonal Allergies: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment

I find that Loratadine (Claritin) helps a lot too. Both are available with a prescription in the US, so probably the same in the UK.

stabbybitch · 19/08/2018 18:13

Yeah I do, I'm in Hampshire. Weird feeling in one ear, very sore throat, glands swollen and generally feel shit. I also have a massive hormonal under the skin chin spot & a boil on my inner thigh & arse cheek.
Feeling very sorry for myself today!
