Boredom, whining, lack of sleep, lack of money to do anything 'fun'.

Unable to use the toilet or have a shower without an argument breaking out.

I can't be the only one praying for the term to start???

Yep. But im a lone parent to 4 with no help so its been... difficult.

Celestia26 · 17/08/2018 23:40

ItWasAllADream I only have two, you must be superwoman to still be sane!

Yup, all our usual toddler groups and activities get cancelled and all the local soft plays get crazy busy. Does my head in after a couple of weeks!

GuessWho04 · 17/08/2018 23:45

Defo, fed up. I always start with good intentions, and positive thoughts. They diminished after about half a day, when the arguing had already started!!

MustShowDH · 17/08/2018 23:46

I have one - still bloody hard.
She has no one else to play with, so expects me to entertain her.
Only another 2.5 weeks to go...…….

keyboardkate · 17/08/2018 23:48

Bet you loved your school hols as a kid though, it is what parents sign up for.

Soon to be over and the threads will turn around to other issues.

Celestia26 · 17/08/2018 23:49

MustShowDH That's my mantra at the moment! 2.5 weeks, 2.5 weeks, 2.5 weeks.......

This sort of whinging is well why we get ludicrous laws about school attendance Angry

tor8181 · 18/08/2018 01:08

we home edders hate the holidays for a completely different reason

we cant wait till September so we can have our public places back to ourselves as the "school users"take over

QueenArnica · 18/08/2018 02:38

They can be very hard at times, especially when the kids don’t play ball! Hopefully tomorrow will be better Smile
@tor8181 umm they are public places ergo for use by everyone...Confused

onedayonedaymaybe · 18/08/2018 03:32

It's the whining and moaning I'm struggling with. My 7 year old is never happy no matter what we are doing.

Sleepyblueocean · 18/08/2018 06:02

They are too long for ds. He misses the routine and facilities of school. There is nothing available in the holidays for children like him and he relies on me constantly for entertainment and companionship. About now is when the challenging behaviour ramps up.

PremierNaps · 18/08/2018 06:21

@tor8181 public spaces........back to yourselves.........public for a reason 🙄

positivepixie · 18/08/2018 06:31

Just a different perspective but I wish I could spend more time with my 2 during the holidays! I've managed to carve out about 3 weeks of holidays from work and loved every minute, precious time together whilst they're young. Granted, being able to go away on a main holiday and a few days out help in terms of keeping them occupied.

Taffeta · 18/08/2018 06:31

I love the school holidays now mine are at secondary. 6 weeks not long enough!

windysocks · 18/08/2018 07:13

try working ft and juggling childcare I would love to be at home with children in hols. enjoy them while you can if you are lucky enough to be at home with them & stop moaning!

ForalltheSaints · 18/08/2018 07:18

I don't think the laws on school attendance are unreasonable. I think were summer holidays shorter and the Christmas and Easter school holidays shorter there would be more complaints.

BlitheringIdiots · 18/08/2018 07:20

Have been at work apart from one week. Would love to spend more time with my son during the holidays.

Sierra259 · 18/08/2018 07:20

I work PT and also wish I could have had a few more days off with mine, but I have to spread out my leave to cover some of all the holidays. However, I am under no illusions that having them all day, 7 days a week for 6.5 weeks would be at all easy! All credit to those of you who do!

Sleepyblueocean · 18/08/2018 07:21

The 6 weeks are difficult for some people at home with their child or children. They can moan about it just as those who work can moan.

CocoDeMoll · 18/08/2018 07:23

You know what? I was dreading the holiday with dd and a new baby but it’s actually been better than expected. That said I’m looking forward to school again!

MaverickSnoopy · 18/08/2018 07:24

I love them but I do know what you mean. I struggle to fill the time and come up with ideas. I also find I spend all my time on my feet running around after small people. Not fun this year at 33 weeks pregnant with pgp.

I actually have an ideas list but sometimes it languishes at the back of the cupboard.

So if you were at home with a parent in the school holidays growing up what did you do? I don't ever remember being bored or having a horrible time and we didn't go out and do much. I remember baking, playing in paddling pools and dens, reading, painting, colouring and lots of garden picnics as well as trips to the park. I remember homemade ice lollies and a couple of trips to places in the summer hols. I have amazing memories and although everything I describe might sound fairly mundane to us as adults, it's the stuff of dreams for kids. I look back so fondly. I do think that getting out and about quite so much can be a lot of pressure, especially if you don't have a lot of money. I do understand that those with little ones need to find a way to burn off the energy (I have a 2 year old) but generally I find that the things I mention above work wonders and a trip to the park for a few hours usually burns her out for nap time. We also sometimes have a few TV days for a bit of respite (for me).

The fighting....and the absence of going to the loo on your own is pretty relentless!

MissusGeneHunt · 18/08/2018 07:24

Now mine is well in to secondary school and more than independent, I look back and wish I'd taken more holiday time out when he was younger. Easy to wish via hindsight though, but now poor DS is being mummied and taken places when all he wants is fecking Fortnite!!!!

Oh, and just to reiterate, us 'school users' (whatever the fuckwittery that means) will use PUBLIC places whenever we deem fit, thank you!! Crack on with your term time cheaper holidays too!

QueenCity · 18/08/2018 07:27

My two are incapable of coexisting peacefully. Individually they are great but together they are awful. They have been off for TWELVE weeks. They go back to school on Monday!! I will be celebrating!

Skyejuly · 18/08/2018 07:28

I have 4. Just costing me a fortune to feed them lol and they are forever bored...and arguing...
