To ask you for door knob recommendations?

I've moved into a new house which has "privacy" door knobs on many of the rooms, which are really annoying because they keep locking when they're not supposed to, and need to be opened with a screwdriver. They also make the house look like student digs. I want to replace them with something smart. My local big-chain DIY store has "designer" satin nickel mortice knobs for £15 each, but they don't look much different to some I've seen on Amazon for little more than a fiver. I don't really have an eye for these things, so I'm hoping to get some sage advice from those of you who know your doorknobs!

I fitted door knobs in my last house and I’d never have them again. Look great. Impossible to flick open while you’re carrying stuff, don’t work if you’ve got greasy hands, really bloody annoying.

I’d get handles. I wouldn’t buy from Amazon. I’ve renovated several houses and have found amazon stuff to be either brilliant or really shit. I’d buy something a bit more expensive and better quality from an ironmongery type place where you can have a good feel of the knobs Grin to assess the quality of them.

Are they all in the "off" position? Grin

I just popped into my local specialist ironmonger shop and the equivalent brushed satin doorknobs there were £25+.

I'm hoping for a few more recommendations from mumsnetters along the lines of "I bought these ones for £x and they look just as good as the ones that cost £20+" ...... or maybe ...... "You really need to pay at least £15 to get anything that looks the business, but the premium range from the DIY superstore are just as good as the ones from the ironmongery". Any thoughts?
