AIBU to get the plane home early

I am in Italy with a friend, we're staying in her house, she lives in the UK with us but invited us here with her for a holiday. I am extremely grateful.

The problem is that her mum also stays in this house. She's nice, but they have screaming matches every morning. It's really ruining mine and my 6 year old sons time. DS hates the atmosphere, grated we cant understand them but it's still not nice.

This morning I got up and took DS to McDonalds, it was a 30 minute walk each way but it was better than staying in amongst the screaming.

Would I be unreasonable to go home? We're due to go home Saturday any way but when we're here its awful, we've been out and enjoyed Italy. It's just this situation.

is their no hotels or airbnb you can check into for your last couple of days?

Twistedfateofone · 16/08/2018 11:11

I'm not sure, we're in a small town but I could look, I just feel stressed

Theyre italian. Probably just deciding what to have for lunch

Go out friday and saturday morning?

MapleLeafRag · 16/08/2018 11:16

It’s only 2 more days. Easier to go out than hassle of changing flightsz

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 16/08/2018 11:17

Yeah, OP, calm doon, it's just that they are Italian. I remember the first time I went to China and I thought there was some sort of military incident happening at the airport. It was just local people talking to each other Grin

I have spent a lot of time in Italy, pretty sure it's about lunch, as PO said.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 16/08/2018 11:18

PP, even Blush

Hissy · 16/08/2018 12:00

Speak to your friend about it? tell her how you feel and how it makes your DS feel?

TomHardysNextWife · 16/08/2018 12:05

Can you do the whole concerned friend act and say "oh my goodness, I'm so shocked at how poorly you and your mother get along, my DS has been terrified listening to all the rows, is there anything I can do to help as it must be something very serious to cause such arguments".............

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/08/2018 12:07

Sounds pretty awful OP but I wouldn't pay for new flights given you're due home on Saturday though. Could you have a few days out with DS and keep out if their way?

Twistedfateofone · 16/08/2018 13:14

It's not that they're Italian when my friend is crying after. I have spoken to her and she has apologised, but theyre back at it now. I am planning a day trip for tomorrow to Venice and I will be out of the way.

Is this the same trip where she was worried about how you would dress? Or was that another poster?

Can you stay near Venice for a few nights and fly home as planned? I stayed in a nice hotel on the mainland and took the bus to Venice every day. Much cheaper than staying on the island itself.

Twistedfateofone · 16/08/2018 13:23

@silver Same poster. First 6 days were great. Now I wish I followed the advice and stayed home

You are where you are, so let's see if we can help you make the best of it. Can you afford a few days in a hotel or B&B? Do you have a budget? What airport will you need to fly back from?

mushlett · 16/08/2018 13:33

Spend a couple of nights in Venice it’s amazing xx

Twistedfateofone · 16/08/2018 13:58

I have €260 and am an hour North of Venice

It's Thursday afternoon, you're out all day tomorrow and you fly home on Saturday. YWBU to change your flights, just do out of the house activities.

SilverHairedCat · 16/08/2018 14:16

You fly Saturday? Then yes, rather than pay for hotels or flights, can you plan early starts so you're up and out without having to engage with them? Two days in Venice would be well worth it, there's so much to see. Buy a 24hr vaporetto ticket and use it again the 2nd day - maybe buy it after lunch on day 1 so is runs on until late on day 2?

Hissy · 16/08/2018 15:11

I agree. Be OUT. a lot/all the time and TELL them to STFU with the arguing.

At the end of the day, there is now way back to a friendship after this anyway

Twistedfateofone · 17/08/2018 05:43

So off to Venice today, thanks all, for keeping me grounded
