decorator & toilet brush/bleach/remaining loo roll left on kitchen table??

Hi Mumsnet,

I am having a decorator paint my downstairs WC and dining room at the moment.

I gave instructions that the toilet he could is the downstairs one that he is decorating (hence why we left toilet brush, toilet roll and bleach in there).

Popped out today and came back home to find that he had finished for the day. Fair enough.

I then walked into the kitchen to find the used before toilet brush, bleach and toilet roll left on the kitchen table.

I'm unhappy. AIBU for being unhappy?

Would you be ok with this?

Would you say anything to the decorator (i have two more days of him)?

Thank you.

I don’t really understand the issue, sorry - are you upset that he moved those items out of the bathroom? Presumably they were in the way of the paint job.

mummmy2017 · 15/08/2018 21:04

Don't upset your builder, you will regret it..
Just post how naked you are on here..
It's only a couple of days and the atmosphere will bad if you try to treat him Like a child.

5foot5 · 15/08/2018 21:05

Just take them off the table and put them somewhere else. Why the big deal?

Naked for the builder?

cunningartificer · 15/08/2018 21:06

Presumably he put it out of the way while he was painting. Bleach and toilet roll aren’t unspeakable on a table but the brush isn’t nice. You are not unreasonable to put the stuff elsewhere, and tell him you’d prefer it to be left there rather than on your table. I think you would be unreasonable to scold him, if that’s what you were planning—I suspect he was just focused on his job (no pun intended).

Just post how naked you are on here..

Well this quickly took an unexpected turn!

butterflysugarbaby · 15/08/2018 21:07

Meh, I couldn't get worked up about this sorry OP.

heattreated · 15/08/2018 21:07

What you dont you understand?

He placed a used toilet brush on my kitchen table. Its been down the toilet to brush off shit and instead of doing the obvious, like put it in the hall way, he put it on the kitchen table.

@mummy2017

Post how naked you are on here.

Was that a typo?!

ElainaElephant · 15/08/2018 21:09

It was clearly a typo, can't believe you are asking!

My guess is 'narked'.

butterflysugarbaby · 15/08/2018 21:09

Sorry I missed that the loo brush was used.

Yeah a bit gross. And odd. Maybe ask him to not do it again?

butterflysugarbaby · 15/08/2018 21:10

It was clearly a typo, can't believe you are asking!

And I can't believe you're all aghast over some random person's post on mumsnet!

Ohyesiam · 15/08/2018 21:11

Welll you could use some of the bleach to clean the table, then you could stop being cross.

heattreated · 15/08/2018 21:11

lol at the typo.

I'm unhappy but its also made me chuckle.

I mean, the most obvious place for the toilet brush is the kitchen. Grin.

QuestionableMouse · 15/08/2018 21:12

For fuck's sake... You're being dramatic over a non issue. Just wash the table, with bleach if you like, and carry on. It's a look brush, not used nuclear waste.

EmmaC78 · 15/08/2018 21:13

I would be annoyed about the toilet brush but builders don't tend to think about things like that. I wouldn't mention it though. It is only 2 more days and it isn't annoying enough to cause bother about.

HelpmeobiMN · 15/08/2018 21:13

Sorry, your issue wasn’t clear amongst all the extraneous detail in your post 🙄 no, a loo brush on the table isn’t particularly hygienic, but presumably your kitchen table gets cleaned on the reg anyway. I can’t say I would get upset about it myself.

There are more germs on your phone than your toilet brush, if that makes you feel any better Wink

ElainaElephant · 15/08/2018 21:14

Hahaha, love the assumed emotion @butterflysugarbaby

(hint: swap aghast for amused)

Bezm · 15/08/2018 21:14

Is the toilet brush in a holder? If not, where's the holder? When I use it, I always leave it in the cleaned loo with a drop of bleach for a few minutes. Then it's clean!

HoleyCoMoley · 15/08/2018 21:16

I don't use a bog brush, I get one of those cheap pan scrub brushes and chuck it out afterwards, yep, it's not nice but he won't do it again.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 15/08/2018 21:16

Meh, just wipe the table down.

heattreated · 15/08/2018 21:17

erm, how is it dramatic hun? Reading skills?

I was just posting for thoughts and said i was unhappy.

I didnt say "furious, shocked and distraught" Grin.

OP posts:
garethsouthgatesmrs · 15/08/2018 21:17

Please don't have a go at him over this. Just move it somewhere tomorrow that you are happy with, if he needs toilet roll he can get i for himself and he probably won't need use other things anyway.
YABU to expect a random painter and decorator to care about these things in your home as much as you do,

AgentProvocateur · 15/08/2018 21:19

Just wash the table. It was clearly in the way when he was working. Better the kitchen table than a carpet. It’s really no big deal and not worth mentioning to him.

SassitudeandSparkle · 15/08/2018 21:19

YABU.

Did you mean that the toilet he is decorating is the one that he could use?
