Weather presenters always saying sunshine is good.

I'm a farmer. We need rain. I'm in Scotland and it's far better here than in the South of England. Poor harvest in England. Rain is good.

Ok.....

derxa · 15/08/2018 20:10

I'm saying weather reports are completely ridiculous.

Because if you don't think sweating like a pig and getting sunburn is the greatest fun ever, then you're worse than Hitler and probably like to kick puppies in your spare time.

BiggerandBetter · 15/08/2018 20:11

Agree. I don't watch or listen to weather forecast blabbings anymore! Sometimes the presenters chat to viewers/listeners as if they were imbeciles or 7 year olds at primary school. I now just go to a computer weather forecast on the internet.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 15/08/2018 20:11

But they don’t control the weather. Saying sun is good doesn’t make the rain go “fuck it, tif the are loving it we won’t fall now guys,”

Sallystyle · 15/08/2018 20:11

I am in East Anglia and we have had plenty of rain in the last week now.

Sun is always good IMO. I want it to come back again.

Bestseller · 15/08/2018 20:12

I don't think they always do. During a prolonged hit spell they talk of the relief brought by a bit of rain etc.

Regardless, they don't get to choose the weather

apriljune12 · 15/08/2018 20:13

Chatting to a farmer friend of ours Dexra in midlands and he’s very worried. You have a point.
And people should be made aware there may be shortages as heatwave in the continent too.

derxa · 15/08/2018 20:14

I love our temperate climate here. It's the basis of our agriculture.

I live in the SW and the BBC weather presenters manage to ignore us completely. The other day they even mentioned the weather in Paris....but totally failed to mention the SWof England.

We've had some rain now and the grass is growing again...and, OP, I agree, the farmers have been desperate for rain.

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 15/08/2018 20:17

I've thought this before. Continual sun and dry weather isn't good.
I'm not a farmer but I can see the plants in my garden wilting and the grass getting dried out so if your livlihood depends on the weather then the weather presenter wittering on about it "going to be another day of glorious sunshine" follwed by a frown and " unfortunately the weather will then be turning wet"

derxa · 15/08/2018 20:18

I'm sorry but when some silly idiot says that 'good' and 'fine'is always related to sunshine I do rather lose patience. They're London bots.

OP posts:
FuzzyCustard · 15/08/2018 20:29

London is hideous in the heat. There is no fresh air, everything is stale, smelly, polluted and you really can't breathe. (I had asthma when I worked in London; it cleared up as soon as I left). Every tiny dried up park and square is covered with people and litter.

The London-bot forecasters ought to be putting out health warnings.

ForalltheSaints · 15/08/2018 21:01

I agree with the OP. Stick to facts not opinions. Weather should also be presented by meteorologists and some of them should be women over the age of 40.

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/08/2018 21:19

BBC Carol in the morning is a female meterologist over 40.

Agree that the weather is too London centric, but they are commenting on the extreme nature of this summer, ie it's been too dry for the farmers and too hot for working/vulerable people, and there's been issues for asthma sufferers etc.

But for once here in Leeds we appear to have had the better weather this year and there's been few days where 'everyone' has been wittering on about yet another scorchio day, while we've been sat inside looking at cold/wet/windy.

Ummmmgogo · 15/08/2018 21:30

yabu this has been a wonderful summer and its natural to think the weather forecasters are concentrating on the wrong bit of the uk. my family always complain that they spend too long on Scotland and not enough time on london and the South east.

but maybe you could check online forecasts if its upsetting you? thank you for producing our food xx

FuzzyCustard · 15/08/2018 21:35

BBC Carol got my goat the other day. On breakfast telly they were talking about two beaches in Cornwall that were just too busy and the suggestion was that people should find a different beach to go to. And Carol was banging on about one in the north of Scotland. Of course, if you're in Cornwall, it is utterly reasonable to pop up to Inverness for the day! POINT ENTIRELY MISSED Carol.!

chillpizza · 15/08/2018 21:40

If only it could be as simple as setting it to rain midnight - 6am never during the day. Perfect.
