A few days ago, I posted that I was due a phone upgrade and wondered what to go for.

Dh's daughter (my step daughter) has an iPhone and I'm the only other one in the family (both ours and her mums side that does) that also has an iPhone.

She's 13.

For Christmas she really wanted an iPhone and dh and her mum bought her one but told her that her iPhone would be linked to mine so we could track her whereabouts. She's now started going off with her mates etc after school and in school holidays.

Now I had totally forgotten about this - we've never had to track her as she's always home when she says she will be etc etc.

Anyway mentioned to dh I was thinking about swapping from an iPhone to a Samsung then realised we wouldn't be able to use the 'find friends' you get on an iPhone.

So basically, is there another app you can use? Literally everyone else has a Samsung, is there an app dh and her mum could get to link to her iPhone at all to know where she is when she's out?

You can do it via iCloud.com I believe

Life360 is an app compatible over different phone types.

sorry to hijack your thread op, but how do you link iPhones?

Thanks

Download Google maps onto both phones. Get daughter to share her location with you.

I think you can put your Apple devices into your family on iCloud and enable find iPhone app and share location so you can all see where the devices are when online either through WiFi or mobile data

jelly449 · 15/08/2018 17:32

Thanks, will look into both those

@Ohyesiam there's an app on the iPhone called 'find friends'. It's basically just sharing your location with other iPhone users.

So if dsd was at the Park, I could go into find friends and check she (or her phone at least) was there.

Very handy if you have a child who's just started going out and about to put your mind at rest. Also if you want to spy on someone I suppose lol.

You can log into find iPhone from anything with internet access. All you need is her Apple ID and password. I use this more often than find friends because when DD doesn't answer her calls or texts I set the find iPhone alarm off and she can't miss it, no matter if it's on silent or in a friend's bag. She promptly calls me back.

We also use Life360

I had no idea you could log into iCloud to do this - problem solved! Thanks :-)
