DS (4) returned from gardening club a few weeks ago with a little pot of soil. I've duly watered and kept in a sunny spot.

There seems to be a least 2 diffrent shoots growing here. So - are they actual plants or just weeds? can I chuck them?

I'm rubbish horticulturally, so any ideas would be gratefully received!

Look like 2 plants, probably some flowers, but may be herbs? They could do with thinning out though. Split them up in to several pots so they've got more room to grow.

Not weeds but difficult to identify when so small. The spiky ones like the one on the right could be cosmos. But they should have been planted about April to flower in Jul/Aug, so if your DS only planted them a few weeks ago it’s far too late for them to flower before the end of the summer.

Yes I thought perhaps herbs.

Oh god, I risk killing them if I try and repot them. My track record isn't great with plants!

Could you ask gardening club what they are? And for some tips on how to take care of them?

The spikey/serrated leaves look like rocket, so I wonder if it's seedlings from a pack of mixed edible leaves/salad?

INeedAnAero · 15/08/2018 17:03

Yeah I'll ask when he's back at school, but it's not for a few weeks yet.
In typical 4 year old fashion, he couldn't tell me what he'd planted and there were no instructions or labels sent with it Confused

Oo, do you think?? I love rocket!
I thought it looked a little pale for rocket, although I accept I'm clueless when it comes to gardening!

Not weeds, I wouldn't have said. Keep them alive, OP! You can do it!

I shall try my best bridget!

May attempt re-potting at the weekend....
