Would you continue to see this man?

Been seeing this man for a few months, every time we went out, he would pay or we would go half. Last three nights we went out, he hasn't had any money, and I had to pay for everything. I don't mind, but just wondering whether this is a sign of something else?

ask him.

Pinkvoid · 14/08/2018 19:15

Has he pre-warned you he is skint and you have offered to pay or has he just turned up and said he has no money on him and expected you to pay? If it’s the latter, I wouldn’t be sticking around at all. He’s a sponge.

dating198 · 14/08/2018 19:15

He's just saying he's broke, that's it.

Why is he suddenly broke? The reason would make a difference to me. I'm broke because I have had unexpected expenses this month, so it's a short term thing and I'd be open about it, if I were dating.

But if he's broke because he drank it all and pissed it up a wall for example, I'd be less than understanding.

Shitonthebloodything · 14/08/2018 19:18

Has he agreed to go out and come along without any money? Did you realise you'd be paying it did he just expect it?

Castieldeansam · 14/08/2018 19:18

then why don't you do stuff that doesn't cost much if any money? if he doesn't want to spend time with you without you spending money, that tells you something. If he is happy just spending time with you, no money spent, then he is probably skint!

Pinkvoid · 14/08/2018 19:20

Well if he’s saying he’s broke and you’re offering to pay, you can’t complain.

If he’s just turning up without pre-warning that he has no cash and is expecting you to pay, leave him because he’s sponging.

InspectorIkmen · 14/08/2018 19:21

At what point in proceedings did he announce that he was broke? As others have asked - did you realise you'd be paying?

Snowman123 · 14/08/2018 19:22

Did he pay most of the time before.
Maybe he's fed up paying?

Oldraver · 14/08/2018 19:24

How many times did he pay when you went out before ?

sonjadog · 14/08/2018 19:36

I don´t think it is necessarily a sign of anything except that he doesn't have money. But wait and see how it pans out. If this is the start of him never having money, then yes, you should be cautious.

user1493413286 · 14/08/2018 19:40

It depends how he’s going about it; is he letting you know before hand that he can’t go out as has no money and you’re offering to pay or is he arriving with no money expecting it.
Also three times this month or 3 times over the last 3 months? He might just be really broke this month

HollowTalk · 14/08/2018 19:42

At what point does he tell you he's broke?

GunpowderGelatine · 14/08/2018 19:45

Probably going to be an unpopular opinion but I couldn't be arsed with someone who was broke so early on in the relationship. It's not about who pays for what, but being skint is hardly a bonus is it

MissVanjie · 14/08/2018 19:51

Agree with Gunpowder tbh

He sounds a bit of a loser turning up with no money on him

It would be different if he got in touch to say look my boiler broke/car failed mot or whatever and so i’m skint this month so shall we get some wine from lidl and i’ll make you my special ‘day before giro day daal and rice’ or something, gives you the chance to either say ah nice that sounds great or don’t worry about it, i’ll buy you a drink

But rocking up to pub/restaurant/cinema without a bean on him is shit, and not something i’d do myself whether i’d been with the person five days or five years.

ImAIdoot · 14/08/2018 19:58

Have you paid as often as he has yet? It would probably BU to judge until that point.

theOtherPamAyres · 14/08/2018 20:09

It could be worse.

Daughter's friend went on holiday for a week with her boyfriend and he declared on the first night that he had no spending money. He said he was broke after paying her back for his half of the booking.

SpandexTutu · 14/08/2018 20:16

Agree with everyone - if he only tells you he can't pay his half at the end of the evening - red light!
If he tells you beforehand so you can arrange an evening that doesn't cost much - less of a problem.
We've all been broke at some point!

donquixotedelamancha · 14/08/2018 20:25

every time we went out, he would pay or we would go half

Has he paid for you more than 3 times? Did he make a fuss?

I would be certainly be bothered if he'd just turned up expecting you to pay, but I wouldn't burn a several month relationship just over having to pay a few times.

waxy1 · 14/08/2018 20:40

He's a bum where'd he come from, nobody knows,
Yeah the kid's a punk
A no good who never could just look at his clothes,
Yeah the kid's a punk

He's a hip shakin' heart breakin' hobo-woh, you know
The kid's a punk, yeah the kid's a punk

Gretagumbo · 14/08/2018 20:47

I don’t want no scrub.
A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me.

applepiencstrd · 15/08/2018 09:49

No he's a cf

Goth237 · 15/08/2018 17:01

If he unexpectedly sprang it on you when you were out, I'd be a bit annoyed and ask him to tell me before we go out. However it sounds as though he's been quite generous leading up to this - either paying in full or going halves. So why not give him the benefit of the doubt?

Babycham1979 · 15/08/2018 17:18

Maybe he's sick of the fact that, so far, he's either had to pay or go halves. Maybe he thinks yor're a cheeky fucker and now it's time to let you stump up once or twice.

Can't say I'd blame him to be honest.

MissVanjie · 15/08/2018 18:52

it depends tho doesn't it

op on the dates when he paid, did you have money on you and offer to pay but he insisted? or did you turn up with nothing and go 'you'll have to pay because I'm skint'?

because there's a clear difference in those two scenarios isn't there
