Tough Love???

I was told in a very nasty way, by my 'D'H that I was fat. Shortly after, I went to my doctor who told me I had high blood pressure, and being over weight doesn't help. I have been on a diet ever since. Now,...... my H said it was because of him, and his "Tough Love" that made me get off my arse, and diet. AIBU to think that some people use this term to cover up their actions or words when they know love has nothing to do with it at all.

Tell him that he’s no prize pig , you can do better than this man.

What does he bring to the relationship apart from his lovely compliments?

justilou1 · 13/08/2018 11:07

Tough love isn't going to make his penis bigger or make him a more fulfilling lover is it?

Lynne1Cat · 13/08/2018 11:07

Nice. Tell him that he's crap in bed and that his cock is small.

TheHulksPurplePanties · 13/08/2018 11:08

"Tough Love" doesn't mean nasty. If he'd sat you down and had calm conversation with you saying that he loves you but he's worried about the long term health implications of your weight, THAT would be "tough love".

Being nasty is just being nasty.

I am fat. My husband knows I am fat. My husband knows that I know that I am fat and that I need to do something about it. We have mirrors and scales in the house and I'm not an idiot. I just like cheese, bread and wine too much for my own good.

When I say I'm fat he says no you aren't you are beautiful. This is because he is a nice person, he knows I don't need it pointing out to me.

Telling someone who is fat that they are fat is IMO just nasty.

hungryhippo90 · 13/08/2018 11:12

Wow no that’s really nasty of him.

Honestly he professes to love you but called you fat and now takes credit for you losing weight?

Trinity66 · 13/08/2018 11:16

Making someone feel like shit isn't tough love, it's not any kind of love

No of course YANBU. It's right up there with "banter" being used to excuse racist, sexist, homophobic, bullying behaviour etc as just having a laugh.

He didn't call you fat in an offensive way because he was worried about your health and, having exhausted other options, decided that for your own good a short sharp shock was the only way to motivate you to change. He did it because he's a cunt.
