iPhone smashed screen, should I chuck it?

Not really an AIBU but posting mainly for traffic and because this is the only board I use. Grin

I have an iPhone 5s that has a smashed screen. The touch screen still works but the screen glass is completely fucked! (glass shards in finger as you swipe the screen fucked)

What can I do with it? I have a new replacement phone so don’t really want to pay out for a new screen.

Should I just chuck it?

I am a bit unsure about trying to give it away on eBay as I have no idea how to wipe the phone of all my info.

It seems I could get a company on eBay to do a new screen for £30 ish but it’s the hassle of packaging, posting then having to pay for the postage as well as the service.

It’s a decent phone but I’m not sure IPhone 5’s are worth much anyway?

Does anyone have any ideas?

You can sell it on eBay for spares. Google how to wipe it. Or get a new screen on eBay and fit it following the instructions on YouTube - relatively easy with a 5S. They are worth around 100 quid, as I recall. Even if you choose to send it for recycling, you will need to wipe it.

There are some companies that pay you for your old phones. I think they send out enveloped for you to send it back in. You likely wouldn't get much, but they may be able to re-purpose it rather than just dispose of it. I think envirofone is one

Timpsons will replace the screen for about £40. Depends if you think this is worth it or whether you are planing on getting a new phone soon.

I keep my 5s on the speaker dock and use it as an iPod. Would that work for you, Bobby? If so it'd be worth getting a cheap screen replacement.

There are normally little phone repair shops on the high st, could you pop into one or two and see if they can help? Might save the time posting etc

It will cost £25 for screen replacement through ebay. Think I used a company called screen surgeon.

Oops I didn't read properly. You wipe it by going in to settings and restoring to factory settings.
