I heard about the most amazing job opportunity a couple of days ago. Been filling in the (interactive PDF) application form ever since. Got it perfect early this morning, clicked submit and nothing happened. I thought maybe it was because I had had the web browser open for so long, so I reopened it and c&p'd it all over, which took an age as there are so many different sections.

Then I spotted a tiny line in the thousands of pages of guidance notes saying to do it in Adobe Reader. Never used it before, tried to open the file in it but lots of the info isn't showing. I've tried to copy and paste it in from word, but it's making a ding sign like it's too many words, but it's not. When I copy and paste tiny sections of the writing, it comes up in massive letters, so I think this might be why, but I can't work out how to change it to smaller letters (have tried googling).

I could retype it all and see if that works, but it's due in by 12pm! I also have no idea if once I've done that and click submit, it'll even work and send it to them? I've no idea if Adobe Reader works like that. I've emailed them, but no idea if they'll reply in time, and if they ask me to send them my application as an attachment, I'm worried they'll open it in Adobe Reader and my answers won't show to them either!

Please, please help if anybody has any ideas. This opportunity could change mine and DDs life.

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm panicking.

*There is currently limited eForms Support.

We will get back to you as soon as possible but please be aware that due to annual leave within the team this may take us a little longer than usual so please bear with us.

Many thanks,

The e-Forms Team*

Argh! Don't know whether to phone?! It's a university. Massively competitive job/ course - so I don't want to make a bad impression before I've even sent the application.

I’m confused, doyou mean you need to send it as a pdf?

If so from Word, Save As , select type, .pdf

WarPigeon · 10/08/2018 10:00

Do you ^

Ring them!

It might be a known about problem and they will be able to tell you what to do.

No, there's this button at the bottom. But it says it needs to be completed offline in Adobe Reader, not in a web browser. I'm just going to type it all again in Adobe Reader, but if I click that button will it definitely submit? Does this happen in Adobe Reader? As will take me well over an hour so don't want to waste precious time if it's not going to work (but can't test it and send an incomplete application).

I read it that it's an interactive PDF that needs adobe reader installed to run. It sounds like OP has adobe reader and it still isn't working.

hatgirl · 10/08/2018 10:10

You shouldn't need to retype it all.

If you c&p it into a word document first and then remove all formatting (press control+A and then select the option box hopefully near the top of the screen that says remove all formatting) you should then be able to c&p it into the offline form without it formatting wonkily.

MrsPaddyGrant · 10/08/2018 10:10

Hi,
copy and paste all your content into a word document in case you lose it again on the online version.

HoldingOutForAutumn · 10/08/2018 10:15

It's not working, I've clicked clear formatting and it's still making the ding noise even with one sentence. I'm typing it again, but does Adobe Reader work like that? If I click submit does it magically send it to them with no need for an internet browser?

Honestly OP I would contact the uni. I've just finished an MA and there have been numerous IT related difficulties to do with certain types of browsers not being supported by uni software etc. Are you trying to fill in the form on an iPad/tablet or on a PC?

YourDaughter · 10/08/2018 10:21

Have you tried to download the most updated version of adobe reader? Might be yours isn’t compatible with theirs?

HoldingOutForAutumn · 10/08/2018 10:34

I got it to work GrinGrin I saved the completed form in the web browser, and then I just had to rewrite a few sections. Clicked submit in Adobe Reader and it now says congratulations! Weird, never knew you could do that in something that wasn't the Internet

Anyway, I'm so relieved. Thanks everyone for trying to help. Can breathe now Grin please keep your fingers crossed for me!

Sorry, I meant I saved the web browser version and opened it in Adobe, then retyped the sections it didn't like. Woooo Grin
