To ask for Zika free holiday ideas for October Half Term?!

Mrsjones17 · 09/08/2018 20:11

I’m a teacher and would like to go away for October half term (27th October) We are currently TTC so needs to be Zika free. We don’t want to have to put TTC on hold we’re already 2.5 years in! Want to go somewhere warm late October/early November. Only place I can think of Zika free is Canary Islands.

Want to go for a week, not bothered about board basis, somewhere nice and relaxing. Ideally adults only if we can. Has anyone got any suggestions other than canaries please?! Thanks

I think Mauritius is Zika free but I'm not 100% sure.

Cyprus could be an option? IMO I would go further afield than Europe for a beach holiday at the end of October.

Mrsjones17 · 09/08/2018 20:20

Yep Mauritius is Zika free but coming up just short of 4K for a week. Not sure I can justify it! 🙁

Would go to Cyprus but Weather not that great. Also DH is military and deploys there for 4 months of the year so not sure he would be on board! 😂

Thanks for suggestions though!

Scotland. No Zika and midgies should be gone Wink

Mrsjones17 · 09/08/2018 20:35

As much as Scotland is beautiful, have been numerous times I would like somewhere warm! 😀

Cyprus was great last Oct half term. Temps 26/27

We’re doing Crete this year.

Liverbird77 · 09/08/2018 20:42

Menorca is lovely.

edwinbear · 09/08/2018 20:53

Dubai is lovely in the Oct half term and Zika free.

clarrylove · 09/08/2018 20:59

Crete is too cold in Oct. How about Cape Verde?

Mrsjones17 · 09/08/2018 22:18

Would love Cape Verde but got Zika there!

Dubai is a good shout.

Look at a map? Anywhere outside the tropic lines should be ok (then double check of course...)

Sunkist12 · 09/08/2018 22:27

We've booked southern Tenerife as heard it's mid 20s

percypig · 09/08/2018 22:29

Croatia - zika free and should be pleasantly warm (and cheap) at that time of year, especially if you go to Dubrovnik area.

Nothisispatrick · 09/08/2018 22:53

We went to Mallorca last October half term and it was perfect weather.

Mrsjones17 · 09/08/2018 22:56

Yes I have looked at the map just wanted others thoughts or recommendations.

@percypig went to croatia last year and loved it. Just didn’t know if it would be warm enough at end of October? Have u been at that time of year?

We were in Mexico this year, didn't see a single mosquito. If you don't fancy that morocco will be warm, we did Marrakech and Essaouira. Marrakech was an experience (we stayed in a riad in the centre) pretty hectic and dirty and I got groped by a teenager even though I dressed respectfully. Essaouira was lovely, much more relaxed but things to to see and do, live music, local argan collectives, quad biking, horse riding, beach and water sports. We hired a car and drove from one to the other. We stayed at the Sofitel in Essaouira, beautiful, luxury and very reasonably priced.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 09/08/2018 23:10

Why do you think Cyprus weather won’t be great?

Mrsjones17 · 09/08/2018 23:52

My DH gets deployed out to Cyprus so he won’t want to go there on holiday.

@fash84 thanks for that. I would like to back to Mexico we went for honeymoon a few years ago and had an amazing time. However the Zika risk is too much for me I get bitten bad all the time 😕 didn’t think about morroco will look into that thanks!!

Yes, we have been there during the half term holiday - it wasn’t hot but was pleasantly warm, shorts and t shirt weather (low 20s I think). We flew into Split but I think further south would be even warmer. We did have a little bit of rain but not much, the beaches were quite empty but still plenty to do. The only downside was the pool at our villa wasn’t heated, so we were only in it for half an hour at a time, but if you were staying in a hotel/resort I’m sure there would be an indoor pool as well as outdoor. The upside was our accommodation was a real bargain.

SpiritedLondon · 10/08/2018 00:32

Morocco as suggested or Madeira - although it is temperate all year round rather than hot... or how about Sardinia or Sicily ???? ( too hot for me in August).

nightwispa · 10/08/2018 00:35

Go to Muscat, Oman, it's beautiful.

JW13 · 10/08/2018 00:48

Another thing to check is that you won't need malaria tablets. We booked to go to Zanzibar last year as it was zika free. Then I got pregnant before we went and realised I would have needed malaria tablets Blush. So had to cancel - luckily insurance covered it or would have been a very expensive mistake!

LeighaJ · 10/08/2018 00:57

Gran Canaria

cookiesaurus · 10/08/2018 01:02

We did Mauritius at Easter due to Zika/weather combo - I was left a bit disappointed. It definitely wasn't worth the money - Oman is lovely! Or Dubai for some good weather on a Zika free basis.

Indonesia was so much better than Mauritius... save the proper long haul for a few years time!

DreamingofSunshine · 10/08/2018 10:53

I went to olu deniz at the end of October once and the weather was lovely, but I think we were lucky.
