Does anyone have any recommendations for some AMAZING stay-put foundation?

I'm 36, combination skin, and currently using Maybelline SuperStay 24hr foundation. Either it doesn't like my skin or it can't handle the heat right now, whatever reason it slides off after an hour Angry

I apply my makeup at 7.30am, leave the house at 8.15am, and by the time I get to work for 9 it's sliding off and I'm a hot sweaty mess (even though I try to keep as cool as possible on a packed bus with no air conditioning).

I've tried other brands but they never seem to have sticking power either Sad Any marvellous recommendations extremely welcome!

The best I've found for longevity (which were able to cope with work trips to Hong Kong, so very humid) were Nars Sheer Glow and Hourglass Immaculate - in both cases paired with the hourglass veil primer and with urban decay setting spray over the top. The setting spray makes a massive difference, they sell handbag sized minis of it which last ages.

Not cheap options I'm afraid, but the only ones I found that gave good long lasting coverage but didn't look cakey and came in ghost like shades! Sheer Glow is easier to apply than the Hourglass, which dries very quickly.

There's Double wear but it's quite heavy (obviously) so may be too heavy for your skin. There's also Dior forever which I think is really good in this heat.
Are you using a primer or a setting powder/spray?

LoisLanyard · 09/08/2018 19:30

A primer may be your best bet! Boots No.7 is a good one (in my view anyway!)

I find that so long as my primer and setting spray are good, it doesn't matter so much which foundation I use.

mayandjuniper · 09/08/2018 19:33

Skin the foundation. Use a primer (Mac do a great one) and then a good solid concealer on top, NOT a liquid one. The primer fills in lines and evens your skin texture so once the concealer is on it will look flawless, plus it isn't as liquidy as foundation so won't come off. Set with a loose translucent powder, using a big brush rather than a sponge. Nars do a good powder, and Mac for the other stuff, but I'm sure there are loads of products which fit the bill.

I've had some fabulous success this last few weeks with Rimmel Insta Go 2 in 1 setting spray and primer. You can use it through the day to refresh too. Been wearing with Rimmel 25 hour. Both after a last minute raid on Wilko's when I left my make up bag behind and they were the only store around!

I really like the tarte Amazonian clay one

PennyDreadfull · 09/08/2018 19:36

Thanks for the replies, I currently use Maybelline Baby Skin primer under my foundation, but it doesn't seem to like my skin either!

Double Wear or Double Wear Light (both Estée Lauder), MAC Studio Sculpt or their Nourishing Waterproof one (stayed all day for my Vegas wedding). I don’t bother with a primer since an MUA on here said they offered no real benefit and I’ve seen no difference whatsoever, I use either of the MAC foundations and neither budge all day.

TabbyMumz · 09/08/2018 19:49

Have you ever considered giving your skin a break and not wearing any foundation?

Happycow · 09/08/2018 19:54

I discovered the DoubleWear Light a few months ago (after needing to step up from BB cream!) And it has stayed put through all my awful face sweat. I use my (boots no 7) BB cream as a base / primer as it has an airbrush like effect and keeps the foundation slightly dewy (bit not shiny).
I use powder on top and all is well!
Ester launder do decent free sample sizes (Last a good week) so easy to try first. (or visit each one in your area and get enough to see you through summer)

FortyFacedFuckers · 09/08/2018 19:57

I have really oily skin and I am currently using Estée Lauder mattifying primer, no 7 mattifying foundation and no 7 mattifying powder, top up the powder at lunchtime and seems to be fine!

3WildOnes · 09/08/2018 20:00

Double wear light or Nars sheer glow. I use a Becca primer and a Laura Mercier translucent powder on top if I need my makeup to stay in place all day.

imsconequeen · 09/08/2018 20:00

I have a thread on here AMA I'm a make up artist. Your primer and foundation need to both be water based or oil based or else they don't work together

What moisturiser do you wear?

Setting sprays are more effective than primer imo x

Blondiechips · 09/08/2018 20:15

Go easy on any creams you use beforehand! I live in a very hot place (we've just had 2+ weeks of 40° in the shade), and serum, moisturiser and primer (plus body moisturiser) just seem to trap the heat in and bring out the sweat. I hate not doing my normal routine, but honestly, face cream with an SPF, let it settle, then a bit of eye pencil and waterproof mascara and some lip salve and job's a goodun. Your skin needs to breathe! Save the full on creams and potions routine for bedtime, or a make-up free day! (Disclaimer: I have a tan so this is easy for me to say now...would be harder if I had my usual dead person pasty skin)

Plump82 · 09/08/2018 23:02

Off the back of another thread on here i bought a product called B3 Face Saver and its AMAZING. Its a facial antiperisperant but also doubles as a great primer. Its seriously changed my life!!
