Going half's with friend on parking fine ?

lucylooey · 09/08/2018 13:47

Me and a friend took our kids out for the day.
We parked in a supermarket and it did say 3 hours max.
She drove and I said it's 3 hours in here.
Anyway yesterday she got a £85 fine or £50 if paid in a week or so.
Would you go half's with your friend ?

Who’s fault was it that you were over the 3hours?

toolonglurking · 09/08/2018 13:48

Nope. Driver takes responsibility for how they drive.

lucylooey · 09/08/2018 13:50

I think we just lost track of the time.
It was a beautiful day and we were sunbathing

Then yes, I would go halves.

Goldenbug · 09/08/2018 13:51

Who was responsible for staying too long? If you were saying you should go but they said "don't worry", them. If it was a joint thing I'd offer half.

Goldenbug · 09/08/2018 13:51

Half then.

lapenguin · 09/08/2018 13:51

Think it would be nice to go halves.
I'm sure if you were the driver you would appreciate it

ManyCrisps · 09/08/2018 13:52

Well you did warn her and she forgot.

BIWI · 09/08/2018 13:55

If you knew about it, which you did as you pointed it out when you arrived, and you didn't say anything after the 3 hours were up, then yes I think you should go halves.

And given that you knew, why didn't you say anything?!

PinkHeart5914 · 09/08/2018 13:58

Surely it’s the drivers responsibility to park somewhere appropriate? You did say it’s only 3 hours here. I wouldn’t expect a friend to pay half of my ticket

purplecorkheart · 09/08/2018 14:03

I would pay half given that both of you knew it was a three hour limited. You could have equally kept track of the times sunbathing as your driver friend.

rosetree7 · 09/08/2018 14:06

Yeah I would go halves personally.

Although weirdly, I would not expect my friend to go halves if I was the driver.

I would like her to offer though. Blush

But I'd say 'it's OK keep your money.' Smile

ohdearmissus · 09/08/2018 14:07

If I was you I would happily give her £25

daisypond · 09/08/2018 14:07

I would pay half.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 09/08/2018 14:08

I would go halves too.

notacooldad · 09/08/2018 14:09

Well you did warn her and she forgot.
OP mentioned the time when they got there but they both forgot when sunbathing. So you are saying it's ok for OP to forget but then the driver ( who has taken the OP out) has to stump up the lot.

I would pay half, for sure.
In fact my two friends paid 1/3 each of my fine when we went away and the parking charges was enforced from 08.00hrs. They reasoned that we were all to blame for not checking and beside I did the driving so it would be rubbish not to help out.

I would give my friend the £25. It was one of those things that sometimes happen.

PrettyLovely · 09/08/2018 14:10

I would go halves.

Maidsrus · 09/08/2018 14:11

Have u seen it? You usually get a discount as incentive to pay early? But yes I’d offer half

I wouldn’t offer half if it was a speeding fine, that would’ve been their choice/fault

Grumpbum123 · 09/08/2018 14:11

I’d go halves

lucylooey · 09/08/2018 14:12

Just transferred £25 over ..would feel too guilty on her not to do it and we were both to blame
