Sleeping bag has ruined everything!

Angry

After months of hourly wake ups, DD finally sleeping for longer stretches

She’s just woken a couple of times in an hour (probably the sleeping bag’s fault) and so checked her nappy as smelt suspicious (but must have been just a fart)

Could I do the bloody thing back up?! The zoo often gets stuck on this particular piece of shoddy workmanship but this time just would not budge. Meanwhile DD springing awake with all the entertainment, cooing and wriggling gleefully and doesn’t now want to go back to sleep ever

After FIFTEEN minutes of this charade I’ve had to put her in a warmer one (albeit a proper, well made one that is always good as gold) but that means the carefully calibrated temperature system of degree of window opening and blind height has to be altered so now it’s bloody louder and lighter as well! Just what we want at 5am

I hate you, you stupid sleeping bag, and I might burn you in the morning!

We bought this abberation at a local baby shop when I was pregnant and we didn’t know better (anything). It’s made by “Zip Zap” who unsurprisingly don’t seem to be in business anymore. I’m sure it’s safe, it’s just terminally badly behaved.

Mamas and Papas bag is being good as gold, now I just need to get the temperature down.

The end

The ZIP gets stuck, not the sodding zoo (though it is like a zoo in here at the moment)

Burn it. If I could pinpoint a reason for my bad sleep that wasn't, y'know, my daughter, it would be burned to cinders.

SpaceDinosaur · 09/08/2018 05:46

BURN IT

🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥

I feel your pain OP.

Chalady · 09/08/2018 05:50

Save it for DDs Xmas stocking, dollies, dinosours or bricks. She will love hearing the story of how shit it was!

Bottlepanic · 09/08/2018 06:17

I haven’t even put DS in the sleeping bag yet, because it still looks a bit big/like it could slip over his face - and I’m still happy to support this and go along with you and blame mine for a horrible fractured night too! Let me know where the bonfire is, and I’ll bring mine and some marshmallows 🤛

Moody123 · 09/08/2018 06:28

Burn it! How ever my LO has been sleeping in a nappy the last few months and his sleep has improved

Ziptastrophe · 09/08/2018 06:48

Good idea Chalady

Now been pretty much up since 3.30. Still trying to bore DD to sleep as I just can’t face it being morning yet, though she has napped on and off since the great sleeping bag excitement

Stupid stupid bag

Oh god. I LOVED my daughters sleeping bags and I gave them away ( crying real tears at the time) because I couldn’t bear to see them wasted.

Now, reading this thread I realise I should have made one into a bathroom laundry bag or peg bag or something......too late too late.

Anyway, back to OP. NO do not burn it!
That’s too quick.
Take it apart bit by bit. Remove evil no zipping zip and chop it up.
Make material into floor cloths. Or car washing cloths.
Maybe burn 🔥🔥🔥the filling.
But destroy the zip, the cause of the bags demise.
Do it, you know you want to.

happymummy12345 · 09/08/2018 07:09

That is why I hate them. Don't see the need for them at all

stuckficks · 09/08/2018 07:12

Erm, could you try rubbing a candle on the zip to see if the wax helps it to work? Everything deserves a chance.

However if it's the fabric getting stuck in the zip it is beyond help and it should be crucified and then burned. Or slowly hanged, drawn and quartered around your garden, get medieval on it.

Ziptastrophe · 09/08/2018 07:46

The sleeping bag and DD have won. We’re all up partying to the joyful tones of the rainforest jumperoo

To be fair I do love sleeping bags normally. The pain of trying to tuck in a cellular blanket in the early days without waking a barely sleeping babe... but this particular one is just a disgrace.

@stuckficks after my morning tea I am feeling more generous but it’s the fabric rather than the zip. It’s quite a handy tog - 1.5 - which lures me in every time on in betweeny nights like last night, but I really should know better by now. I shall LTB

I don't normally have much brand loyalty but I only ever use the Grobag sleeping bags - they've all been fab so far and there's loads second hand on eBay.

Feeling your pain with the early morning jumperoo!

Ziptastrophe · 09/08/2018 07:51

Also the dog had done a huge turd on the floor for the first time in a very long time. Again I assume from the excitement

Ziptastrophe · 09/08/2018 07:52

Agreed @Narya, our Grosnugs and Grobag have been fantastic

We got the Mamas and Papas one as a gift and it’s also fit for purpose!

Going to and zap that zip on the stupid Zip Zap one!

Don’t try any particularly complicated recipes today or have your hair cut.

cakeandteajustforme · 09/08/2018 07:57

Is it just gritty? Rub soap/a hard-ish lip balm the zip and run it up and down a few times?

Verbena87 · 09/08/2018 07:59

White company sleeping bags are the gold standard for us - keep an eye out in the sale otherwise they’re stupidly priced, but they have a 2 way zip and it means you can just undo the bottom end. Lovely fabric and wash well too. The zip zap sounds maddening!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 09/08/2018 08:00

Do you have an alterations place nearby? Could they swap out the zip and work out where and why the fabric is getting stuck in the zip?

I loved when my two were in their Gro Bags. Never had a complaint about zips or studs with them.

KimchiLaLa · 09/08/2018 08:05

Get some gro bags from TK MAxx. I get mine from there, cheap.

Canshopwillshop · 09/08/2018 08:20

Love the username 😅 I always used Grobags and never had zip ishoos. Get rid of zip zap - sleep robbing bastard!

Stephisaur · 09/08/2018 08:36

I thought this was going to be camping related Grin

No advice really, but I agree with PP that bag should be punished!

Tiredofit · 09/08/2018 08:48

I no longer use Grobags. Infact they weren't even "a thing" when ds1 & ds2 were babies. I do, however sympathise with you as my dog has also performed a huge turd on the kitchen floor this morning. This was due to the excitement of ds1 (22) crashing around getting ready for bed at 04:30 and waking ds3 (12) who did have Grobags but not recently who then couldn't get back to sleep but objected to being told to read when he'd prefer to play games on his kindle.

I look back wistfully and think how I loved the baby stage.

I let dh clean up the poo!
