I have volunteered to be a bucket collector outside a supermarket on Saturday for the Alzheimer's Society. I have never done this before and am not the bubbliest of people!

I know people get easily pissed off by people collecting for charity so what would you suggest to get the best from this? I don't want to be one of those people who strike up cheesy conversation!

Any helpful tips will be appreciated!

Just stand and smile and if you can look hopeful. Don't need to say anything unless you want to suggest a donation. Maybe rattle the bucket (if that's allowed these days)? I've done it before and I am quite bubbly but you generally don't end up chatting to people unless you know them really.
