To think Chris Moyles has turned into Alan Partridge?

I was flicking through the radio channels and landed on Radio X. It's the Chris Moyles breakfast show and he still has Dominic Byrne as his sidekick.

AIBU to think what a dried up waffling load of drivel aimed at padding out any old crap to fill the air time? They sound like they've in a cupboard with a mic and nothing else.

Today - 10 minutes discussing an old photo. I remember Chris Moyles on Radio 1 and I think he fed off the energy of everyone around him. Now that he's in a cupboard on his own he sounds just like those Alan Partridge shorts that used to be on Sky.

Has anyone listened to him at length on Radio X? Does he actually say anything relevant?

I cant listen to him because of exactly what you describle. He will get fixated on one thing or joke and go on and on about it. And not enough music which he could get away with on R1 but not on a commercial station because his ramblings are punctuated by adverts.

Its just a tired format in my opinion.

bionicnemonic · 08/08/2018 07:24

No nothing relevant. I used to enjoy Radio X now it’s Spotify in the morning and radio later. Jon Kennedy in the evening is worth staying up for!

HelpmeobiMN · 08/08/2018 07:27

I've never been a fan, but he's definitely worse than he used to be. When he was a radio 1 DJ he could justify endlessly talking and never playing any music because he was famous enough and had enough draw. But he's not famous anymore and it's much harder to tolerate the drivel.

DottyBlue2 · 08/08/2018 07:53

He also had the expertise of the Radio 1 producers to reign him in and to plan the show properly. Now that it's just him and Don under the stairs, they sound like a pair of adolescents amateur schoolboys.

I thought he was going to quit showbiz after the Jesus Christ Superstar tour?

Radio X is our default in the car but I prefer Jonny Vaughan's show in the evening. My work commute is about 45 mins and we seem to hit chat every day with maybe 2/3 songs the whole journey?? I wouldn't mind if it was interesting but they just seem to chat rubbish but that Toby Tarrant is so much worse, thank god for cars with Bluetooth Grin

Timeforabiscuit · 08/08/2018 19:45

I love it, precisely because it is inane waffle a la North Norfolk radio.

I used to listed to radio 4, but Chris is a soothing balm to my brain - no thinking and only a tentative grasp on reality required Grin

raviolidreaming · 08/08/2018 19:47

Absolutely agree with you all. Moyles is completely tedious, labours mediocre jokes until their death, and you get about one song ever twenty minutes. He's also taken Humble Brags from Absolute Radio and ruined that by missing the point of a humble brag.

raviolidreaming · 08/08/2018 19:47
  • agree with you all, except Timeforabiscuit as the thread moved on! Ha!
TedAndLola · 08/08/2018 19:49

I had to stop listening to Radio X in the mornings because of the three of them (the two you mentioned and Pippa). I don't mind chat in the morning when it's funny, but they're not funny.

WallisFrizz · 08/08/2018 19:50

I still like him. Johnny Vaughan is also great. I think the level of sponsorship on Radio X is a problem as he’s constantly doing shit competitions and plugging crap. When he’s just chatting as he used to with Dom and (now?) Pippa, he still makes me enjoy my journey to work.

GlitterGlassEye · 08/08/2018 19:51

I like Chris Moyles on Radio X tbh, loved his Radio 1 show and switched off 2 weeks after Grimshaw started.

I cannot stand that Johnny Vaughn tho. Has he always been such a bellend? I used to really enjoy the Big Breakfast before school Hmm.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 08/08/2018 19:52

I used to absolutely love Moyles on R1. Was so disappointed with the Radio X show, there was just none of the sparking off the rest of the team that made it funny - I guess the lack of Dave, who knew him well enough to argue with him, was one of the main problems.

I've occasionally listened to old shows and the new stuff isn't half a patch on what he used to do.

MarthasGinYard · 08/08/2018 19:52

'Ruddy hell it's Soft Cell'

May be next ....

NeverTalksToStrangers · 08/08/2018 19:59

Haven't listened to radio x show, but I loved him on R1 and stopped listening when he left.

Didn't it come out afterwards that he had fallen out with comedy dave a year before his show ended? There was definitely less chris-dave banter in the last months. Think he stopped some of his features too, but was still on the show. I suppose if he'd left the show there would have been a whole media circus as to why.

applesisapple5 · 08/08/2018 20:01

YABU. Steve Lamacq is Alan Partridge. Last week his was going on and on about Tudor history with a caller, it was v v Partridge

Mehaveit · 08/08/2018 20:03

It's excellent! I've been focused on a piece of work this week so stuck my headphones in and listened to his podcast. It's undeniably low brow humour but I was genuinely laughing out loud (embarrassingly so Blush) at some of the 'best bits' on the podcasts. Yeah there's drivel but I'm happy for that to wash over me. I don't listen to him for songs so that's a null argument. I'm slightly annoyed when my 10 minute commute coincides with one or two songs.
