Festival refund

Champagneallround · 06/08/2018 17:54

Won a family ticket to a festival. Unfortunately rain and high winds forced organisers to cancel the third and final day. AIBU to ask for some sort of compensation?

Yes, unreasonable if you won the ticket.

Mousefunky · 06/08/2018 17:58

You want compensation for a prize? Confused

nipersvest · 06/08/2018 17:58

Is this Camp Bestival? If so, there's info on their website about refunds being processed, but they are doing based on ticket purchase info, so not sure how you would stand if it was a gifted ticket. Were you left out of pocket?

TokyoSushi · 06/08/2018 17:58

If you won it, as in it was free, or £2 to enter a raffle or similar then YABU to ask for a refund.

Did you travel far or book accommodation to go to it?

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 06/08/2018 17:58

What would they refund though if you didn’t pay anything?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 06/08/2018 18:00

Very unreasonable Hmm You didn't pay for the ticket so what is the compensation for?

FatCow2018 · 06/08/2018 18:02

Compensation for what?! Confused Your tickets were fucking free!! 😂

RainySeptember · 06/08/2018 18:03

Bloody hell ive heard it all now.

igivein · 06/08/2018 18:04

If you one it in a charity raffle or whatever, you could claim the refund and donate it to the charity ...

M00nUnit · 06/08/2018 18:06

Who gave you the prize? If an organisation bought the tickets and gave them out as a prize then that organisation should be able to get a refund. I guess you could ask the organisation if you can have tickets for next year instead?

RainySeptember · 06/08/2018 18:07

Just looked at their website. They're contacting people who bought tickets to offer refunds and are saying that nobody should contact them.

I guess the organisation you won it from will get the refund. They may choose to pass it on to you, since your prize was not as promised.

Pommes · 06/08/2018 18:07

Compensation, no, but perhaps a ticket for next year would be a nice gesture.

SavannahSky · 06/08/2018 18:17

You had a lucky escape I think!

It looked like a big standard fairground in a field with a few burger vans chucked in!

Champagneallround · 06/08/2018 18:30

Thanks for all your responses. Not looking for a financial refund but didn't get to enjoy the whole prize due to adverse weather. We did travel a fair distance and hired a camperVan - but I know that was our choice.

well actually if you won a prize then a prize you should get! yes the organisers of the competition will claim a refund and should arrange some sort of prize to the value of your win.

ShatnersBassoon · 06/08/2018 18:34

What sort of refund is there, other than a monetary one?
You'll need to ask the competition organisers to get the refund, then really it's up to them whether they pass it on to you or not. Was there anything in the small print about what would happen if the prize was unclaimable?

GabsAlot · 06/08/2018 19:25

even if u had bought th tickets u woldnt get a refund for a camper van unless you had specific insurance

RavenLG · 06/08/2018 19:43

As gabs said, if you mention the campervan cost they will most likely tell you to claim through insurance.
I suppose the (northern) saying "shy bairns get nowt" or "don't ask don't get" applies, but as an event manager I'd think you had a proper brass neck to ask for any sort of 'compensation' for a free ticket. There may also be something in the t's and c's re: 'acts of nature' and cancellation so check them.

Depending on the phrasing and the mood of the person in charge of complaints / refunds they MIGHT offer you a day ticket for next year or something but I do think YABU and should be grateful you won your free few days even if force majeure halted play.

scrivette · 06/08/2018 19:50

Did you win the prize directly from Camp Bestival? If so they may honour the prize next year instead at a guess.

They haven't yet contacted the people who paid for the tickets yet though.

Darkstar4855 · 06/08/2018 20:08

To those saying the organisers of the raffle will get a refund - they may not as they may not have paid any money in the first place. I live near a big annual music festival and they donate a large number tickets to local charities and organisations to use for fundraising.
