If you are only referring to work related stress, I got this in my inbox today from a motivational speaker.
"What tricks do you play on yourself to keep going in an unbalanced state?
The ?Keep me hanging on? trick:
?It?s only for a little while then I?ll rest/slow down/get organised?
The ?Minimising? trick:
?It?s not so bad really? (only causing me irritable bowel, palpitations, lost sleep, headaches, migraines, missed appointments, short temper?)
The ?At least it?s only me that?s suffering? trick
When you?re out of balance, others are affected. When you are in balance, it gives others an opportunity to get balanced too.
But here?s an idea?
Take 1 deep breath right now?ask yourself; ?what does my body need right now??
Notice what answer you get, and then your response to that.
Is it balanced, healthy, caring, is it something you would say to someone you cared about?
Have fun with this concept and try a new trick if you haven?t already done it:
The ?I?ll be sneakily nice to myself when I?m not expecting it? trick
I send this month?s message with a wry smile on my face, having learnt all of the above only this week and not for the first time. There?s an Indigo Girls song that goes; ?The hardest to learn is the least complicated? and ain?t that the truth? Sometimes we even have to experience things more than once before we really change how we do things for good. There is hope for us all, for in every moment of every day there is an opportunity for choice and in that is an opportunity for change. One day at a time. There really are ways in which you manage balance - lots of ways; learn from your own achievements!
Enjoy the sunshine, breathe it in to all those places that have been winter-worn."
