I came across this video on youtube about an service dog being turned away because Santa was allergic to dogs:

AIBU to say Santa was in the right over the fact he could of had an severe allergy to this dog and mum was not accommodating that fact

Unfortunate combination of circumstances. I doubt Santa had even contemplated the situation, and neither had the child or parents.

Just one of those things. It's not really about who is right, there is no 'right' in a situation like that.

I've often wondered about this issue. I'm allergic to dogs (and cats) and am always a bit on edge when around a service dog. I know that my face is going to start itching and I'll be sneezing before long. Obviously in a public place I just have to get on with it (and I'm thankful I don't need a service dog).

Doesn’t sound like it was handled especially well by Santa & his elves but I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect someone to have to tolerate being exposed to an allergen that could cause them significant discomfort or harm whilst at work. I think the mother is being very unreasonable.

I'm sure some reasonable adjustment could have been made in this particular situation that could have worked for the man and the girl.

Whilst I have every sympathy for everyone who needs a service animal, their needs don’t necessarily trump the needs of someone who is allergic to said animals. The exposure to pet allergens could be severe to the third party, I don’t think they should just have to ‘deal’ with it.

Especially here when it’s not like another member of staff could have helped, unless they have a back up Santa lying around.
