What time is reasonable to make a phone call?

For me -
During the week for a business reason 9-6.
For contacting acquaintances 9 am - 8pm
I would call close friends or family at 9pm.

Weekend I wouldn’t call anyone before 10am.

If it is outside these times then it’s a boyfriend or an emergency. The same goes for texts but an email can be sent any time.

Is this reasonable?

For me, business reasons should be 9-5.

Acquaintances 10-5
Friends 9-9

The thing is during the week I leave the house at 7 and get back at 6. I would have to wait for the weekend to talk to little Johnny’s mum about the scout trip or whatever.

I abide by the "9 o'clock rule" and my friends and acquaintances know this. Obviously there are many reasonable exceptions, but it does mean that if the phone goes off outside these hours, I will be braced for an emergency, urgent work matter, etc. One friend with a penchant for early morning calls took a while to register the fact that, with elderly relatives in failing health, I would assume emergency if the phone rang at 7:30 in the morning, until I seriously overplayed the "OMG what's wrong?" spiel when I answered the call, to the point of embarrassing him.....

Business 9-6
Friends/family 8-10 (if i know their likeky to be up before 8 and not settling down after 9) bit generally 9-9

As In your op, but best friend 24/7, both ways.

smurfy2015 · 05/08/2018 10:44

Family and friends anytime between 7am and 11pm - during the week if they want answered they have to ring "the code".

Other people phoning without the code get the answering machine and depending on who they are will get a call back at what I consider an appropriate time

Should add that is for the landline, calls to my mobile are different. It is kept on silent to keep from waking me as I need to sleep at various times and I return the call when I see who has phoned.

I ask friends and family to send a text if it's urgent but they also know to try house phone and keep ringing till they get me.

I am 99% housebound so always here except for when I'm in hospital so they know to try mobile which will be on silent and Il return call.

I'd agree with the phone call times, but sms can be sent 24/7 and responded to whenever :)

My reasoning is if someone doesn't want to be contacted, they can simply mute the phone..

Business 9-6
Acquaintances 9-8
Close Friends/family 8-9
Outside these times I message or email
Phone calls outside these times emergency only
With one exception being when DP is away on business we talk late or FaceTime late but arrange when first through text
