Salting Mr slug on my kitchen floor

So I've just been in the kitchen and there is 3 inch slug on my floor. Now if it's ok to read everyone salting and bleaching maggots in wheelie bins does that make it ok to salt Mr slug? Or is that sadist? If it's sadist then why is ok for one species but not other?

Don’t salt him. Poor creature. So horrible and cruel. Just pop him outside.
I rather like slugs myself.

arethereanyleftatall · 04/08/2018 00:23

Just pop him outside.

firehousedog1 · 04/08/2018 00:24

You can't salt him now. You've even given him a name and everything.

DramaAlpaca · 04/08/2018 00:24

Put him outside. No need to kill him in such a cruel way. He's not doing any harm.

Happypuppy · 04/08/2018 00:25

I am a bit phobic about slugs but I wouldn’t do this. I’d get DH or pre DH days , my neighbour to remove.

Huk1 · 04/08/2018 00:26

Why is ok to salt maggots but not slugs?

frogface69 · 04/08/2018 00:27

I couldn't kill him.Put him outside, on a dustpan or something. Slugs and snails are fascinating animals. He hasn't hurt you 😐😯

Nino86 · 04/08/2018 00:29

I don’t like killing animals, even pests, but sometimes it’s a necessity. One slug is easy enough to move; a bin full of maggots, not so much.

So basically I guess I’m saying killing animals is fine if getting rid of them humanely is inconvenient ....

Yeah I might need to work on this.

Rebecca36 · 04/08/2018 00:30

For goodness sake just pick him up with a bit of kitchen roll and put him in the garden.

frogface69 · 04/08/2018 00:32

Even maggots have their uses. They can clean wounds and save lives. I wouldn't keep them as pets, but I would have a hard time destroying them like that.
I know I sound daft.

Huk1 · 04/08/2018 00:37

OK another angle. What About lobsters and crabs? Why is ok for them to be boiled alive so you can have a yummy meal but it's not for me to go salt this slug? At the moment I'm 60/40 to salt it.

OP posts:
daisyinatree · 04/08/2018 00:40

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Just lifr him out with a bit of tissue paper. Salting him is so mean! Sad

daisyinatree · 04/08/2018 00:41

Well I am not OK with lobsters and crabs being boiled alive! And I doubt most people here are OK with it either!

frogface69 · 04/08/2018 00:42

I don't think it's OK to boil lobsters and crabs, either.
All you have to do is take Mr Slug outside.

peppersprayfirstapologiselater · 04/08/2018 00:43

I don't think they feel anything🤷🏼‍♀️

girlalmighty · 04/08/2018 00:43

What does the salt do ? !

peppersprayfirstapologiselater · 04/08/2018 00:43

I actually have no idea don't listen to me

Whitelisbon · 04/08/2018 00:43

I absolutely detest slugs (I blame James Herbert to be honest), but I can't salt them.
Not because it's cruel, but have you seen the mess they make once salted?
It's much easier to shove him onto a dustpan or bit of cardboard and launch outside.

userxx · 04/08/2018 00:43

I don't eat lobsters or crabs and any rogue slugs in my kitchen getting a telling off then shoved outside on kitchen roll. Salting them is unnecessarily cruel.

LeighaJ · 04/08/2018 00:45

Geez just put the poor thing outside. I've never had maggots in my bin so never salted them.

I do agree boiling things alive is sadistic, I don't eat seafood anyway.

ThanksItHasPockets · 04/08/2018 00:47

You will have a ghastly mess to clean up if you salt it. Much neater and kinder to pop it outside intact.

Dottierichardson · 04/08/2018 00:49

OP as with some other posters you will find there are a considerable number of people who think it equally cruel to boil lobsters. But if you enjoy being vicious then fine salt the slug, a lot of people seem to enjoy cruelty to living things so you'll find plenty to side with you, the fact that many will also find such actions disgusting is clearly not a problem for you or you wouldn't have made such a deliberately obtuse response.

girlalmighty · 04/08/2018 00:51

What's everyone on about the mess. Does it blow up. Tellllll meeee

MeltingSnowflake · 04/08/2018 01:05

Why would you do something so awful when you could just... put it outside?

girlalmighty · 04/08/2018 01:05

Well I guess I'll never know
