I'm not a fan of poetry anyway but the bloke who is doing the current lot has such an annoying voice. He just seems to fade away at the end of a sentence and it drives me potty. Anyone else feel the same?

OP posts:
Petalflowers · 03/08/2018 20:56

I find them annoying also.

Chathamhouserules · 03/08/2018 20:57

That's so funny! I just muted the telly when that advert came on. Yes, I agree.

yaria · 03/08/2018 21:03

I mute them every time, I don't know anyone who likes them Confused

Peachypips · 03/08/2018 21:06

Argh it's that really affected poetry voice some poets use to 'perform' their work. Just say the effing poem normally you freak!

LongHotSummer24715 · 03/08/2018 23:44

This!!!! His voice is so odd it makes me kinda angry Confused

DangerMouse17 · 03/08/2018 23:46

Omg Yes! I cringe when it comes on....he drives me potty! Angry

PositiveVibez · 03/08/2018 23:46

I have detested with a passion every nationwide poetry add. HATE HATE HATE

GreatRailwayMaps · 03/08/2018 23:46

I call it "poetry voice" the annoying tone of voice people put on when they read poetry out loud. I can't bear it.

ImAIdoot · 04/08/2018 02:00

Hate the nationwide poetry ads YANBU. Also the mcains ones.

Annoying adverts are apparently a legit marketing tactic.

Pengggwn · 04/08/2018 05:56

They're horrific.

I hate any fluffy, chummy banking ads out of principle. Nationwide aren't the worst offenders but they'll still repossess if you can't pay the mortgage - they're not your mates.

cittigirl · 04/08/2018 05:58

Yanbu

QuoadUltra · 04/08/2018 05:59

I didn’t like them and now I do. It just kind of got to me.

Clever ads though.

Shitonthebloodything · 04/08/2018 06:04

Hate them, but at least the sisters are gone.

Underhisi · 04/08/2018 07:34

I think the fading is partly due to his accent. I don't think it is just a 'poetry' voice.

mum11970 · 04/08/2018 07:36

Hate every single one of them with a passion.

Becles · 04/08/2018 07:36

I love them

CaveMaman · 04/08/2018 07:48

I actually think they're really effective and like them. The message they're putting across is positive and shows the history of the building society which is fascinating and one of positive social development amongst all classes across all counties.

I'm actually considering moving from Halifax to Nationwide so these ads have worked for me...

Pengggwn - they'll repossess if you don't keep up your side of the bargain. They use savings deposits to lend out as mortgages so as a saver (not that I am one, I barely have a pot to piss in) I'd want them to repossess, it's not quite as simple as making people homeless. Unfortunately housing isn't free.

kaitlinktm · 04/08/2018 07:53

Grr - I can't get to the mute button fast enough - so affected and up itself. (The ad, not the mute button - I like the mute button.)

Gorrillagirlfanclub · 04/08/2018 07:58

Yep I hate them too. I fee like they are trying to use a kind of potery / spoken word which is associated with radical or left politics to sell their financial crap.

I find the tone patronising

HarryDaylight · 04/08/2018 08:00

It's called 'poet voice' - the affected, lofty voice that so many poets use when reading their works out loud. The forced inflection and unnecessary pausing is pretentious. It's lazy and unoriginal.

Chalady · 04/08/2018 08:01

YANBU He sounds like he has man flu.

BeefyCakes · 04/08/2018 08:04

I hate most of them, but I do have a bit of a girl crush on Jo Bell.

iklboo · 04/08/2018 08:05

He's definitely using the 'poet voice & cadence' (along with his gestures). I see it a lot as I like going to poetry readings. Still hate those adverts though. Especially 'effected Eddie' as we call him.

stressedoutpa · 04/08/2018 08:06

OMG they give DH the rage!

Almondio · 04/08/2018 08:09

I mute him too (apart from at the cinema where he's even more annoying big and I have to resort to fingers in ears!)

Whoever's doing Nationwide ads at the moment needs to stop. First those annoying sisters, then 'performamce poetry for dummies'...not winning at all.
