To ask why some many people are unfaithful

On mn and in real life...you see that so many men (mostly on mn!) and women too.. that have been unfaithful... It's so common most people probably know one person in RL who have cheated on their DP's.

Why is it that so many people do this?

The main reason I ask is a (not now a) friend who is married with a young child has made moves on to me (openly talking about sexual stuff/flirting)... I've now deleted them and blocked them.

I'm now single, have Been in a couple of relationships and haven't had experience with a partner cheating or me cheating.. so I do wonder why it happens?

And if they end up with the Other person they've had the affair with..how is it that they have a good trustful relationship..?

I think it's part of the human condition. We are by nature impulsive creatures who often prioritise short term gratification over long term gain.

I think its because alot of people want to have their cake and eat it too.

They want all of the comforts and security of a committed relationship. But they also want the thrill of the chase and the excitement of being with someone new.

There is also alot of people who settle for relationships they are not fully happy in as they are scared to be alone. I know soo many people who wont end one relationship until they have someone else lined up to take their place.

Ultimately people are selfish.

Because not everybody values monogamy, even if they’ve made vows to that effect.
