To want my own time?

We camp a lot and I like nothing more than sitting outside the tent reading by the campfire once the kids have gone to bed (later and later these days!). Generally I camp on my own with the kids but when we take an annual summer holiday I still like to do this. My husband will go to bed with the kids at around 10.30 - 11. I love my time with them during the day and evening but just love alone time when they have all gone to bed.

Has someone said this is unreasonable of you?

ShirleyPhallus · 02/08/2018 21:55

Worra nice work on being thread police Wink

OP you might wanna add what you want to discuss / what advice you’re looking for etc

hillbilly · 02/08/2018 21:55

Interesting question Worra. I suspect my husband may think so but would never say it.

Haha! I'm not being the thread police Grin

I'm just trying to get at a backstory if there is one.

Because otherwise it's jut completely normal behaviour.

frenchknitting · 02/08/2018 21:59

Nothing unreasonable about that. Where are you camping that you can have a campfire next to the tent?

hillbilly · 02/08/2018 22:02

French I usually camp in the UK where fires are permitted.

Shirley no particular other pints to add or advice wanted just asking if I am unusual. Most families seem to bed down around the same time or the adults stay up. My husband does not want to stay up but I do. So I sit and read and have a glass of wine in peace and quiet.

YANBU

camping can be very full on with everyone on top of each other, it’s nice to be able to take some time for yourself to recharge

You’re not hurting anyone, carry on!

ShirleyPhallus · 02/08/2018 22:06

So I sit and read and have a glass of wine in peace and quiet.

Sounds heavenly! Grin

thelmalouisewaitforme · 02/08/2018 22:13

My mum always used to say to us when we moaned if one family member wasn't always joining in with group activities "it is everyone's holiday and they should each take from the holiday what they need" - ie be it relaxation, quiet time alone, social activities etc...

So YANBU. Enjoy your wine and book! I'd probably be doing the same!

hillbilly · 02/08/2018 22:13

Glum we are seasoned campers and my children are all over 10 so it's not the constant supervising that it used to be. They are pretty self sufficient and make friends easily and also get on very well with each other. So it's not hard work for me. But that time after dark when they have gone to bed is very special for me 😀

I also need time to myself after the kids are in bed. My oldest daughter is going later and later, therefore do am I as I need that peaceful time at the end of the day! My dp and I sometimes spend it together but are also happy to do our own things.

We don't camp but I can see how you would need some peace and quiet after a day of it, and kids who go to bed late!

BrutusMcDogface · 02/08/2018 22:18

*therefore SO am I

hillbilly · 02/08/2018 22:22

Brutus yes my oldest now is quite often awake when I go to bed at home and I miss that time of having a few hours in the evening where I can completely switch off. But having said that, teens bring their own joy and hilarity to life 😂

YANBU
It's 2 hours later here but DH gently snoring and I love time at night on my own in peace

hillbilly · 02/08/2018 23:25

My husband is also snoring! Alone time done and I'm happy to go to bed in a few minutes 😀

Not unreasonable at all. Am currently on our family holiday and my favourite time of the day is first thing in the morning when I am first up - 2 coffees and my kindle! Love my family but love my own space as well
