Out with a dog-owning friend recently, having food in a dog-friendly pub. Got a bit chilly outside so went inside to have coffees; my friend’s dog immediately leapt up on to an upholstered sofa, having been digging in the borders of the pub garden. I (very politely) suggested she got her dog down from the sofa. She refused, saying it is perfectly acceptable for dogs to climb on seats and sofas in dog-friendly pubs, and that there was no sign on the wall saying otherwise! I tried to explain that I thought it was inconsiderate and discourteous behaviour; surely dog-friendly (especially where food is served) means dogs are welcome to sit on the floor/under the table near their owners? What do the rest of you think?
