Dog on sofa in pub/restaurant

Out with a dog-owning friend recently, having food in a dog-friendly pub. Got a bit chilly outside so went inside to have coffees; my friend’s dog immediately leapt up on to an upholstered sofa, having been digging in the borders of the pub garden. I (very politely) suggested she got her dog down from the sofa. She refused, saying it is perfectly acceptable for dogs to climb on seats and sofas in dog-friendly pubs, and that there was no sign on the wall saying otherwise! I tried to explain that I thought it was inconsiderate and discourteous behaviour; surely dog-friendly (especially where food is served) means dogs are welcome to sit on the floor/under the table near their owners? What do the rest of you think?

Dogs on the floor in places that are not your own.

It wouldn't bother me, but I can see why it might bother other people so YANBU

im sure if it was a issue then the manager/landlord would say something

I love dogs, but that is disgusting actually, and very entitled by the owners. In the past when this has happened to me I have asked management to have a word with the dog owner, to ask them to get down. Which they have done.

The staff in the pub couldn’t see what was happening.

Mine is small enough to sit on my knee, or if she does want to sit next to me I would either get a plastic bag out and put it on the furniture for her to sit on or put my coat/jacket down if I had one.

She is an arse.

Its a place for people that welcomes well behaved dogs. Its not a dog hotel ffs.

Tell her to keep her dirty hairy dog off where people want to sit without getting covered in muck and dog hair. (And i love dogs but she is being ridiculous)

I let my dog sit on furniture in a pub but only on her own blanket. I wouldn’t let her sit on the seat without a blanket.

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2018 21:36

Mine isn’t allowed on the sofa at home so he sure as hell wouldn’t be anywhere else

Wherismymind · 02/08/2018 21:36

Depends on how big and how dirty the dog was.

AtSea1979 · 02/08/2018 21:38

You’re right she definitely shouldn’t let it sit on the sofa. I wouldn’t want to sit there after especially as he was muddy too.

I saw a dog with its bare arse on a sofa in a cafe recently. I was raging but said nothing as of course the owner thought it was cute. Yuk
