To be disappointed with pigeons?

Proper first world problems!

Moved into a new house with a lovely garden and thought how nice a bird table Smile popped some bird seed out and all I’m attracting is bloody big fat pigeons!

Woodpigeons are always the first at the new food. Other birds take their time and aren't so hungry at this time of year, anyhow.

That’s good to know! I clearly have a lot to learn.

You're not cooking them right Confused this thread's content is not what I expected.

Exactly the same where I live. When DD was in Brownies she made fat balls to feed the birds. Put one out hoping to attract lots of lovely little garden birds. Instead this fat great pigeon flew off with the whole thing.

I used to have a bird bath but when fatty pigeon landed in it all the water spilled out.

The last straw was when I got this little container water garden planted up with different aquatic plants. It was just coming along nicely when one of the wretched birds decided to use it as a bird bath and squashed and snapped all the plants Angry

The starlings in my garden chase the pigeons away. They are smaller but have a bigger gang so they have claimed the territory Grin

We put fatballs inside a wire tube bird feeder, which is harder for the pigeons to get to as they are too rotund to fit on the perch. Maybe this would help attract other varieties?

Move near me in West London. My garden is overrun with Parakeets!

Gorgeous, but blimmin noisy.

I love watching the pigeons bouncing up and down on the branch with the bird feeder dangling off of it, so that they can shake bird seed onto the ground. 🐦

I must say I'm disappointed about all the fat shaming on this thread.

BestZebbie · 02/08/2018 21:48

Pigeons are ground feeders, they can't hang on bird feeders - if you want 'lovely little birds' you need a hanging seed feeder (or suet nibbles, which everything seems to vastly prefer).

I just got a garden too...

TOTALLY going to buy a bird/squirrel feeder now 😁 🦅

You need a sparrowhawk!

One just moved into the area and the pigeon population has taken a big hit Grin
