To worry about Chinese buyer?

We are selling a flat to a Chinese buyer, all the paperwork is signed on both sides and we are just waiting for simultaneous exchange and completion, which was set for tomorrow. However their solicitor hasn't received the money and doesn't know why. Ours thinks there could be an issue with the banks and the time it takes to transfer, international checks ect. I thought this was a thing of the past? Could this be an actual issue or are delays of this nature common from China?

Could be - where i work we had 2 over million pound house sales fall through due to monies not coming through from china - the buyers lost their deposits as well. Hope it all comes through for you.

I used to live in China. International money transfers are complicated and can take several days to come through.

How long have they been waiting?

babyboy2018 · 02/08/2018 18:12

Thanks all. Since the paperwork was signed last Friday. Hopefully just an issue with banks etc. No purchase dependent on it though so not the end of the world I guess, just a pain!

Are they experienced in making international transfers? Some things that could have gone wrong include:
Not realising that it takes a few days to clear and mot allowing time.
Not realising that large amounts can take longer especially if filtered through Switzerland due to money laundering checks.
Not realising that their Chinese bank account had a limit withdrawal amount per day so needing to split the transaction.

These are all things that have happened to me.

I work with a Chinese client and their payments are very complicated, it's a long process and their payments can take up to 7 business days to arrive. They sent me their remittance once the payment was made and then it is just a matter of waiting.
