So I wasn't planning a party just a wee healthy version of a cake and family round. OH is saying how wee one should have a birthday party with inflatables and the lot. Money's ok just don't know if it's worth the bother as he won't remember it

A 1 year olds birthday party is for the parents. I wouldn’t bother but sounds like fun so do it if you like!

Bambamber · 02/08/2018 10:27

I personally wouldn't bother, more hassle than it's worth. Got plenty of years ahead of you to go all out. We just did a nice day out followed by family visiting, was a lovely day

At this age parties are for the parents as the baby won't know what's going on. What you have planned is fine. Save the bigger parties for when they are old enough to appreciate it.

EssentialHummus · 02/08/2018 10:33

God no, save the bouncy castle etc for when he's older!

I don’t intend to have proper birthday parties for mine until they’re at school and asking for them, with their own friends to invite. We usually have an extended family get-together and then go out as the four of us to do something special. I am putting off the stress and expense until it’s necessary and they want it!

Surely there is a happy medium between healthy cake and inflatables?? Yours sounds miserable, his might be ott but definitely more fun than healthy cake at a party

JennyBlueWren · 02/08/2018 10:56

We just had proper cake with the grandparents. Actually 2 cakes because MIL made one too...
But if you have friends with children who would enjoy it and can afford it then let him organise a party.

My parents took us away to a lovely hotel for a weekend for dd's 1st birthday. I got a cake from a local bakery and took some decorations with me so we had a little party there just us then another one with the in laws on the way home.

Much more memorable for us than spending it on a party. Yabu for just wanting healthy cake.

NotSoThinLizzy · 02/08/2018 11:03

The healthy cake is due to dietary needs rather than me being a grump 😂 mabye we could go to a baby group that has inflatables and we'll pay for wee ones friends
