A few months ago my dear MIL passed away after a long horrific battle with cancer. My amazing FIL booked us all a family holiday and we are due to fly on Sunday.
Today my FIL has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his leg. The doctor has advised he doesn't fly. However my FIL didn't ask questions about whether he could do anything to minimise the risks.. so if anyone here knows anything about pre existing blood clots and flying I would be hugely grateful. Of all of us my FIL needs this holiday the most. We have been looking forward to it so much and can't stand the thought of FIL not being there.

You're still going?!

moronseverywhere · 01/08/2018 20:53

He really shouldn't fly. Sorry

Lindalee3 · 01/08/2018 20:53

Prob best to not go.

Maybe ask the doc...

Where is it/how long is the flight?

Aquamarine1029 · 01/08/2018 20:54

Flying with a blood clot could KILL him. Is the clot being treated? I hope!

feathermucker · 01/08/2018 20:54

Don't risk it.

GiBlues · 01/08/2018 20:55

Please don’t go, my FIL had a blood clot on his leg that went to his brain, he had a catastrophic stroke last year very suddenly and never woke up.
Don’t risk losing him too for a holiday even if you think he really needs it

Melliegrantfirstlady · 01/08/2018 20:55

Do you have insurance

DesignStatement · 01/08/2018 20:56

Don't fly - claim money back on holiday insurance. No holiday is worth dying for!

Lostmymarbles1985 · 01/08/2018 20:56

Yes he is now having treatment. I was just praying there was some miracle we could pull out of a hat so he could safely travel. He is devastated to be not going. 😞

Arrange an exciting alternative!

Lostmymarbles1985 · 01/08/2018 20:58

He's insistent the rest of us go. The kids are so excited. It's a two and a half hour flight. We have insurance and can claim the cost of his place.
We tried to postpone but it's just too short notice.

When I had a blood clot in the leg, I had to have dàily injections of heparin in to the stomach and blood tests, plus rest with leg up as much as possible. Then after six weeks I was on warfarin for 6m. He needs to take it seriously. The clot can disperse and end up in his heart or lungs, which is fatal.

imsorryiasked · 01/08/2018 20:59

Where were you going?

SpottingTheZebras · 01/08/2018 20:59

Surely you can all find somewhere nearby to go at the last minute instead? If you are in the U.K. the weather will even be nice.

Lostmymarbles1985 · 01/08/2018 21:05

He is adamant the rest of us go. He wants the kids to have their holiday. We will most definitely be arranging something else with him. It's just so unfair after everything he has been through. Thanks for the replys!
