Posting shamelessly for traffic, I'm desperate.

Have had counselling, not high enough priority for anything else right now. I have complex PTSD as a result of childhood sexual abuse, alcoholic parent, neglect, escaped a controlling and abusive husband last year (thanks Mumsnet for giving me so much advice).

I'm struggling a lot at the moment. On the face of it life is good and so I think my brain wants to deal with things. Recommendations please on books, self help courses, apps, anything. I know how my condition works, I understand CBT just can't utilise it when I'm like this.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Have you tried EMDR?

No I'm on a waiting list to get back to the mental health team. But it's a long list...

If you get anxiety attacks which include hyperventilation, there's an app called Breathe which helps you to regulate your breathing rate.

Rape crisis also offer long term counselling. Psychotherapy was also amazing which I was provided by st mungos (as part of my recovery from homelessness)

Other apps people recommend for trauma / PTSD (I have not tried either of these):
Breathe2Relax
SAM (Self-help for Anxiety Management)

Stuff that helps with grounding - not necessarily mindfulness but scents, things to touch etc, and physical exercise

DD had flashbacks as part of PTSD and I definitely found that grounding techniques helped. It might be worth trying a grounding technique yourself - probably choose one such as counting - as it's difficult to make a decision about choosing one when you're in a highly anxious state

Quanta freedom healing by Melanie Tonia Evans worked for me. She does a free 16 day course you can sign up for, and then there are her paid courses if you like what you find on the free course. www.melanietoniaevans.com/
