Aibu to hate this phrase. Where did it even come from anyway?

Photos of someone on holiday with the caption "living our best life" what the hell?

I thought you said that about rescue dogs, I'm sure I've seen it on the Battersea website.

MsChandlerBong · 29/07/2018 13:27

I don't even know what it means? Like yes you might be having a good time at that particular moment but th rest of your life night be utter shit? So how is what living your best life? And we only have 1 life anyway. Or does everyone believe in reincarnation now?

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 29/07/2018 13:28

This phrase makes my skin crawl, it's everywhere 😭

Hadjab · 29/07/2018 13:31

Agree OP, it’s not like I’m here trying to live my worst life!!

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 29/07/2018 13:33

Someone else is living my best life. I got the mediocre one.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/07/2018 13:35

No idea, but I'll file it alongside SILs equally creepy

"We live each day like it is a gift, that's why it is called The Present" as her reason for living to the absolute limit of their mortgage extensions, for holidays in St Lucia and Cuba ffs!

JustDanceAddict · 29/07/2018 14:07

Worse than making memories!

Candyflip · 29/07/2018 14:09

I hear it mostly from NB and trans people tbh. They are living their best lives and being their authentic selves. Fuck offffff.

SugarIsAmazing · 29/07/2018 14:10

@Curious I'm with your SIL on that one.

Yes I've seen this recently on Facebook. It's a bit cringeworthy isn't it?

BrutusMcDogface · 29/07/2018 14:18

I hate it too. Angry

funnylittlefloozie · 29/07/2018 14:19

My lovely friend's ex-P dumped her three weeks ago after a four year relationship. A week later he moved in with his new GF and her kids and has pictures of the four of them plastered all over his FB with this "living my best life" bollocks. If this is your "best life", sunshine, its not up to much!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/07/2018 14:23

That's sad, Sugar. Now, 20 years on, she is 55 years old, stuck in a house with BIL trying to separate. But they can't as they still have a whole mortgage and the house isn't worth what they have out on it. Hard to believe they are deep into negative equity, but they really are!

Her 'present' has turned into a nightmare for both of them!

Ethylred · 29/07/2018 15:02

Not as bad as "see it, say it, sorted".
Which is not even English.

Ezzie29 · 29/07/2018 15:11

Me and my friends started saying it as a joke originally but I think we’ve smilles into saying it for real! It doesn’t especially bother me as far as phrases go, making memories irritates me far more.

Ezzie29 · 29/07/2018 15:11

*we’ve slipped

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 29/07/2018 15:14

Yep, “making memories” annoys me too

pigsDOfly · 29/07/2018 15:19

I can see how that phrase would work in regards to a rescue dog, as it's possible that a dog has gone from a horrible life and on to a much better one.

But for people it actually makes no sense. Your life is your life and you can, to a great extent, control how you live it. You don't have different lives, you live one life, you have ups and downs. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad but it's always the same life.

glamourouspud · 29/07/2018 18:08

There are two songs out, one American by Chance the Rapper/Cardi B and a UK tune by Hardy Caprio called 'Best life' and they both have lyrics 'living my best life' - I like both 😁

I think the majority of people singing it are not genuinely living their best life but maybe aspire to and like the tunes Grin

Babysharkdoodoodoo · 29/07/2018 18:17

Making memories and
Living our best life 🙄

MentalUnload · 29/07/2018 18:35

Isn’t it from Oprah? Something like live your best life and highest purpose?

By which I think she means make loads of money from gullible suckers?

9amTrain · 29/07/2018 18:40

I hate it too. It's annoying.

AnnieAnoniMoose · 29/07/2018 18:44

Do yourself a favour and ditch facebook. You will then be ‘living your best life’ and not have to read such inane bollocks.
