To think this Dad was out of order

We're away camping and went for a pub meal early evening with our teens. DS (15) gives me a look and indicates two Dads with three boys sitting close by, Dad1 is loudly proclaiming the his son is an idiot, an absolute buffoon etc. Kids looks about 8 and is very quiet. My three were shocked at how this Dad was talking to his child. It transpires that the boy has eaten some green slime Chrystal that have come with a magazine. Dad1 is reading the packets and saying that is says they are dangerous if eaten. Dad2 says something I didn't catch but starts with to be fair to him, so it look s like he's embarrassed. This was all very loud, then Dad1 says under no circumstances must you tell your Mum!

Many shades of wrong IMO, not least the fact he wasn't bothered that the boy might be ill. DS reminded me that we always taught them that they were never to keep secrets from either me or DH and now he's older he's realised why.

Poor boy. It would be horrible enough for him to be spoken to like that at home. It would be so much more embarrassing to be ridiculed in public like that.

Some children turn out to be wonderful adults as a result of their parents input and some despite their parents input. Let’s hope it’s going to be the latter moving forward.

YANBU-that is just horrible and as you say, irresponsible on so many levels. Hopefully, the poor lad will be fine, but if he starts to feel ill, being pressured to cover it up could be downright dangerous. The idiot here wasn't the child.....
