to be freaking out over DS lumps and scratches ...

I posted this in health but posting here for traffic ...

DS age 6 had pain in groin (where leg joins body) a week or so ago - so I felt the area and found a couple of lumps which I presumed were glands/swollen lymph nodes. I then felt under arms and neck and lo and behold glands up everywhere. He's had swollen glands on one side of his neck for a good couple of years (which has always concerned me but docs not bothered) but never any other part of his body.

A day later he had v itchy scalp. I felt around and found lump which again I think is a lymph node on his head.

Tonight he has a v v v itchy head and it's been itchy for a week. I checked pretty thoroughally and don't think it's nits. Can't see much else.

He has no other symptoms - is still playing sport, running around, no runny nose etc..

I think he's maybe a tiny bit tireder and grumpier than normal - but he says he's not tired and it could just be end of term tirednes or even me imagining it.

What is happening? Should I be as worried as I am?

I have a doc appointment for him in a week and a half. Should I go sooner?

I am really worried Sad

Its quite common for children's lymph nodes to be swollen but its probably worth checking with your gp. Glandular fever springs to mind

I remember going through phases as a kid where all the glands behind my ear were up and it was so itchy!

I would definitely get him checked out, just to be safe. Could be some kind or virus but best to get it looked at.

I remember my now 16 yr old DS had this from about 6 till he was 9. He was really skinny ans when he laid down after a bath I could see the ones in his groin like golf balls. His neck was always up too. Was never anything serious but not all kids are the same. I would get ir checked for piece of mind but if there is no associated pain I wouldnt worry yourself too much.

The itchiness is probably from the sweat and heat and I do think it's quite common for lymph nodes to be up in kids - if they're all up he's probably just fighting off a bug and can't even feel it. I'd go get it checked out but I wouldn't worry in the mean time.
