Now I appreciate that people have to work, but.....

Can you not load the bloody vehicle the night before? Meaning your gobby mate and barking dog aren’t underneath my bloody bedroom window at half six.

This happens most sodding weekends, I’d love a lay in.

At least so far they’ve not woken the child (famous last words).

Assuming you're not comfortable with speaking to them about it I'd call your local authority on Monday to report the issue and get some advice. There's strict rules on when it's OK to be noisy and when you should stop noisy works

ushuaiamonamour · 28/07/2018 08:04

By all means call the local authority. And the cops. And your MP.

If you left your phone in a mate's house and so can't call, I suppose you could call on your neighbour this evening and with a friendly manner let her/him know that though they probably aren't aware of it their early-morning preparations are waking you Saturday mornings. If they're receptive you could depart with a bit of small talk'it must be rough, having to go to work early at the weekend'and leave the impression that you're the sort of neighbour they'd like to please. If there's no improvement then, you can gradually escalate but if you ring authorities or confront them with all guns blazing now you've no recourse after that. Good luck.

ushuaiamonamour · 28/07/2018 08:14

(I should have added that if this is a problem for you only because windows are open it would probably be best just to wait it out until heat wave is over.)

SaucyJack · 28/07/2018 08:18

Which authority do you think exists to moan to about people making more noise than you'd like whilst putting stuff in their car?

Try talking to them nicely and asking them to keep it down.

ClaudiaWankleman · 28/07/2018 08:19

YABU.

They’re loading a car/ van, not doing heavy building work. It can only be 15 minutes work with two of them. Rollover and close your eyes. Lie ins aren’t enshrined in byelaws that the council enforce!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/07/2018 08:21

Selfish of them. People don't realise how noisy they're being.

Would speaking to them be an option? Getting the LA involved seems a bit extreme unless you have a rocky relationship already.

PanPanPanPing · 28/07/2018 08:21

I'm assuming your neighbour is a tradesperson? In which case they won't leave expensive materials and equipment in the vehicle overnight because of the risk of theft, so they do have to load up in the morning.

Perhaps you take that line, saying you appreciate that it's necessary to load up early in the morning, but could they keep the noise/banter to a minimum please.

treaclesoda · 28/07/2018 08:25

I think these sounds are mostly part of everyday life if you live in an area where you have neighbours. I nearly always hear my neighbour leave for work at 4.30am because his van is noisy. But he needs his van to do his job. I'm just grateful that it's not me who has to leave at 4.30.

Itchytights · 28/07/2018 08:30

My neighbours are like this

Piss takers that they are

We tell them

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/07/2018 08:38

I think that's a reasonable approach, unless they're utter arseholes I'm sure that they will take onboard your request.

ClaudiaWankleman · 28/07/2018 08:39

Piss takers that they are

For loading up their work van and going to work? How dare they.

TwoBlueShoes · 28/07/2018 08:41

Open the window. Scream, “Shut the fuck up you noisy wankers!” at the top of your voice. Jobs a good ‘un 👍

PositiveVibez · 28/07/2018 08:47

If you keep your windows open, close them. If your windows are closed, get double/triple glazing.

They probably don't realise they are being loud.

strawberrisc · 28/07/2018 09:00

I live in a tiny cul-de-sac that’s busier than Tottenham Court Road. I’m having to train myself to put up with the wankerishness or I’d go insane like on “Neighbours from Hell”.

Itchytights · 28/07/2018 09:06

ClaudiaWankleman

My neighbours dearest, MY neighbours.

Actually, they aren’t just piss takers. I was being polite.

They are selfish inconsiderate cunts and they dictate when we go to bed and when we wake up.

I reiterate. MY NEIGHBOURS.

ClaudiaWankleman · 28/07/2018 19:30

You can reiterate all you like dear - you said your neighbours were like the OP’s - ie not actually doing anything wrong.

Thanks dearest.

goingroundandround · 28/07/2018 19:56

So much like my old house.
We had the carpet fitter loading stuff into his sliding door van on one side, the plumber putting his copper pipes in on the other side clanging around and the electrician opposite rolling reels of cable along the cobbled path!
Drove me mad, but never said anything as it’s their livelihood! I was just glad that it wasn’t me having to load up a van in the freezing cold and pitch black at 6am every morning!

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 28/07/2018 20:04

Usually I roll my eyes at threads like this because everyone seems to think people should never utter a single noise just in case auntie Doris three dorrs down bitches about her being entitled to quiet enjoyment of her terraced based property backing onto a school

But actually this mainly annoys me because it is basic courtesy...we have just moved and have noticed we are often the first in the immediate group of houses to leave for work

We've taken this very seriously ....the DC are under orders for silence until they get to the car, we close our doors with precision that borders on the obsessive to ensure no door slams and practically coast where we can until we get to the main road

So yes basically yanbu it actually isn't hard to be quiet leaving and it is basic courtesy....and frankly if I can do it with two Hellions and a clodhopping DP then they can
